He did an excellent job on the cab..... it actually looks right
That's because it's more than likely started life as a suburban. Look at the right angled door glass channels. This is the type of configuration the aftermarket conversions should have used as a starting point.

Building a "stock resto" is a little easier because you are just rebuilding the truck and replacing original parts as needed. Custom trucks require modifications to the body/chassis/engine as well as replacing original parts as needed.
True with one important distinction. When the original part is not readily available the custom builder has the option to choose an alternative whereas the "true to stock" restorer does not have this option. It takes more patience and belief in your vision to produce a concours quality restoration, whereas it takes far more creativity and fabrication skills to create a custom resto.

For the record, I'm not passionate about being true to stock as I usually take the path of least resistance when I rebuild, but I do enjoy a good pi$$ing match!

That's Cool

Whoever did that put a lot of work into it and got something truly unique.

Also, there are not so few of our prcious trucks out there that anyone needs to be beaten with a stick for doing anything to one. Don't be so narrow minded.

gene finally posted what i have been wanting to say. i just didn't know what year it was. i new there were some vehicles that had different wheel well openings. i think it would look kinda weird to cut higher into the fender to make the wells symmetrical.

on a different note. i am the type of person that will probably never buy a brand new vehicle, so when i leave the car lot i can see it 7 times on the way home. a custom truck can be built a hell of alot cheaper and be more satisfactory in my humble opinion. i have under 15k in mine. that includes a brand new motor. i can also say that i have done every single thing to the vehicle (except the welding on the frame). i just like the way it feels when i get to drive it and everyone and their grandpa looks at it. the older crowd likes the 67 chevy c-10 part and the younger crowd likes the "its bagged and bodydropped on 20's part."

also, is anyone going to Cruisin the Coast this year? I will be there and hopefully with the truck painted. heh

I agree with everyone here. The whole idea of building a truck is to put your individual style and taste into it. Whether it is a completely restored stock Cheyenne or a frame draggin custom it should reflect your own taste and style.

I personally enjoy/appreciate a truck that makes me give it a second look. And this one really makes me look hard at it.

Keep on truckin'

Here again to each his own. When I first started with these trucks I liked the step bed idea until I seen a few with them on in colors like red, blue instead of black. That sweet black GMC with the step bed looks REALLY nice but the ones with the lighter colors just dont look right to me. And it is that wheel well. I couldnt see it with the black but it just sticks out like a sore thumb on the lighter colors. It looks ok, just not the look/idea I have for mine.

i just really hate the factory stepside beds/ they are hideous in my opinion, but i couldn't find a reapirable fleetside bed at the time. and the late model bed that is on there was free.

I don't think its a photoshop, i've had this pic for about a year and I can see some subtle changes to the truck besides the wheels that most people wouldn't bother with if they were photoshoppin.
