Re: Name that bolt/nut/screw size

Gravel guard uses Phillips head bolt, 1/2" nut, and a star washer as shown on this 72 example I believe is untouched since left GM

Re: Name that bolt/nut/screw size

So 1/2 nut would mean 1/4 threads IIRC?
That screw looks like it would be a #8 or #10??

Thanks for the pics!!!

Yeah that's the "normal" standard. 1/4" bolts have a 7/16" head and nut, 3/8" bolts have a 9/16" and a 7/16 bolt has a 5/8". There are possible variations like those 12 point hood latch bolts but these are normal I.D. for buying bolts.

Instead of "tapered" those screws would be called "countersunk" I have an unmolested '70 Jimmy partially tore apart that may provide some info you are wanting on this thread.

The rear seat hold down bolts are a 7/16" fine thread, as well as the seat belt bolts front, rear and the threaded holes in the roof where a shoulder harness was possible.

Great thread!---DAC

Well, sorry. I just went off some of these posts from earlier today. Have read it all but memory isn't so good at my age I guess.

Anyone know what screw is used to hold the hatch handle to the hatch?
I tried to order from MSC and they sent me to www.totallystainless.com. These guys seem to have everything.

I have none of the bolts for my spare tire carrier, so I'll be waiting eagerly for this info. I appreciate you taking the time to do the research. My spare tire carrier goes to powder coat next week and I want to get the bolts done as well.

Re: Name that bolt/nut/screw size

Still digging - I know I have some. They are similar to these seat bolts removed from a suburban but IIRC the head was larger and not as tall, fine thread maybe 1/2"?

Spare tire bolts are 7/16-20 X 1.00 with outtie star washers. They are 5/8 socket. I broke one of mine off and going to have to tap and find another.
