Re: what would it take to get 100mph

I'm a straight axle guy, but you're not going to catch me going 100MPH, unless it's in a straight line.

Brakes and suspension are the AD trucks downfall. They were meant for hauling hay on a dirt road at 35MPH.

An upgrade to discs is almost mandatory.

If you stick with front leafs, do yourself a favor and do the C10 power steering upgrade. The biggest reason is because your oem steering column and gear box are bolted to your frame. A wreck at 100MPH and the stock steering column/steering wheel will spear you. They'll be sucking up your gray matter with a shop vac to give to your mom.

For power I recommend this.

Stock horsepower from 260-290. With a tune and uncorked exhaust, expect well over 300.

You can buy a running engine with harness from a salvage yard for $1000.

There are legal high speed venues in the US, Silver State Classic, Big Bend Open Road Race, and Sun Valley Road Rally in Idaho. They do tech the cars to make sure that the suspension, brakes, etc. are up to the task. I am toying with the idea of setting my 64 Chevelle up for Sun Valley to add some variety to the Euro iron. Minimum upgrades will be modern front suspension parts with disc brakes, engine up to the task, OD manual trans and disc quick change rearend. Probably fuel cell and roll cage "just in case".

It's no different than seat belts, "just in case".

it was cool to ride the track a lap
we spent the day on the infield on the 12 hot rod power tour
what amazed me was how flat the turns were
i've been to charlotte speedway with the high banked turns that you can barely walk up

also quite impressed with the crash barriers that surround the track
we didn't try them out
