Notice where the tag in the glove box says white/olive green. The truck is not two tone paint it is solid green with a white top. That shows me the vinyl top is original.

What are you waiting for? Get out the wrenchs and start the full restoration. Where are the really bad rust areas in the truck. In other words what can be saved and what is toast. Factory 396 eh. Sweet Project.

I would say it's am added option. Mine also says blue vinyl trin but I know it DID NOT have a vinyl top from the factory. I dont really know what the vinyl trim option means but i'm sure its not the top. But I could be wrong, I would bow to the gurus if they say this indeed the vinyl top option though heres my option list showing blue vinyl trim.

The olive/white code is the paint code for the body/cab. I have the same paint code on my truck. The body is olive and the cab top is white. Also on one of the pictures you can see white underneath the vinyl. Picture of the back of the cab. The vinyl code is for interior cab vinyl trim. The vinyl on the cab top was added at some point after it was made, either at a dealer or someone else.

Maximum Overdrive is correct in what he wrote,,.. its a code for the green interior vinyl trim ... not a vinyl roof.

Man it's too bad it sat outside so long.

Is the top of the roof as rotted out as it appears in the picture? That could be a dandy truck if it was fixed up but it would be a major investment.

roof looks pretty thrashed from the moisture that was able to hide under that vinyl all those years.... strange that a big block is backed by a 3 on the tree... I guess you could special order just about any combo tho...

Very cool truck!!! I think id buy another cab and some vin tag rivets

the truck Big Blocks werent offered in any of the high horsepower combos, one thing thats interesting is im almost positive they quit using the factory hi-rise intake on 1968 trucks, but i could be mistaken.i have several all dated prior to 69 except a 69 Big Block 2 barrel from a Impala.a BB 3 speed id have to leave that one original, very unusual find-Congrats!

My '69 had black cloth trim, when new. The seat was reupholstered, with black cloth, but not the original variety. Using the analogy stated by Ky Kowboy, I'd have a black cloth top on my truck....which it doesn't have.

As for special order: 3 on the tree was the standard transmission offereing. You had to pay extra for the automatic. But, it sounds like a special order vehicle, from an old skool kinda person, like me. I had a friend who bought a new '63 Impala 2-dr HT, black with red intertior, 283 2-bbl, 3 on the column and overdrive. It was nice, and overdrive was, too. If I had ordered that truck new, with the big block and 3-speed, I'd have added OD. The 4-speed we would like it to have, wasn't the one that was offered.

In the late 60's, into the mid-70's, putting vinyl tops on vehicles was a lucrative sideline for upholstery shops. I suspect your truck was one of many recipients of that fad. It isn't factory. My '69 Dealers book doesn't list a vinyl top for a C-K series. You could get one on an El Camino, but not our trucks.

It would make an interesting, but not inexpensive, restoration. Gee, sounds like my project.

Glad you found the board and happy for your purchase. Good luck.

I think what you see is the stock BB exhaust manifolds. The do have short collectors off each exhaust port. The picture is sorta "muddy" so they may be headers. BB did not use the ram horns type manifolds used on small blocks.

First of all WELCOME!!!
Don't believe the vinyl top is factory. But may have been a dealer deal, like alot of dealers do custom stuff today. Some very nice options on that truck. But as stated earlier you may be better off finding a donor cab for that one, that alot of work to replace a roof along with corners rockers and everything else. Good luck with it. You can get lots of good info here for your project.
