Re: Project: "Out of Retirement" 67 SWB, ls5.3
Sorry it has been so long since I posted. The truck is coming along and I finally have some paint on it. It's the original medium green from 67. The truck is turning out great. I had a couple runs, but they sanded out. It's too bad the whether dropped so I can't finish paining until it warms up. We still have to paint the hood and the grill. The bed will come later. Here some pics

Re: Project: "Out of Retirement" 67 SWB, ls5.3
What did you do to convert your rear end to 5 lug? Re drill the original axles, or use after markets?
Thanks, Wade |

Re: Project: "Out of Retirement" 67 SWB, ls5.3
Thanks Guys,
The wheels are coys, 20x8.5 and 20x10's. The truck should drop another 3/4" or more once the rest of the truck is put together. I can't wait to see it back together. The rear end is out of 90's Zr2 s10. This rear end is 4" wider than the normal s10 and has 3.73 and posi. It's about 1" narrower than a 71-72 rearend, but wider than the 67-70 rear end. It is 5x4.75, so I go Mcgaughy's bid brake kit with that bolt pattern. I am going to run a 1/2" spacer in the rear to get the back tires out a little more. I wanted to use a different wheel, but the lead time and additional cost of custom made wheels was more than I wanted to spend. |

Re: Project: "Out of Retirement" 67 SWB, ls5.3
This is very similar to my build. I went with a new bed as well, I got it from Bill's Truck Shop in Courtice, Ontario they were Woodall parts and are very nice. I sold my stepside bed, I like the fleet's better.
I too went with a 2002 5.3 4L60e combo and modified the truck harness to work. If you haven't decided on manifolds yet, just letting you know the truck manifolds won't work, I went with Trailblazer SS Manifolds. Anyways I'm liking your build so I'm subscribed to follow along. Cheers Ken

Yep, it's 503, I went to PPG and had them pull up 503 from 1967.

Re: Project: "Out of Retirement" 67 SWB, ls5.3
Making some progress this week. My goal is to get this truck out of my shop at work and bring it to my garage before thanksgiving. It's hard to sneak in a few hours of work when the trucks not home., so I'm looking forward to that.
We prepped the hood and grill for paint. I got the steering column repainted, finally put in the center link and tie rods. Also dropped the old seat it. It feels good to just sit in the truck and pretend it's done. Once I bring it home it's time to wire up this thing and get this motor running. |
