Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
Well my dad and I finally cleared out a shed to put the truck in for me to work in. I've been so busy with my new pup that I haven't been able to get to the truck so I had a few hours free today so I was able to swing by and start on some tear down. So far the only salvageable sheetmetal is the front panel behind the grill, the cowl panels and the passenger side fender doesn't need too much work, but the driver fender is trash, the radiator support is trash and the cab has been smashed at some point as well as having more silicone than even bondo holding the floorboards and inner fenders together.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
I got a little more done today, got the inner fenders and radiator support off, the radiator support was completely rotted off the frame and just being held on by the surrounding sheet metal.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
I took a trip to New Jersey last night and picked an engine and transmission. I was planning on sticking with a 5.3/4l60 set up but I got a killer deal on a complete top to bottom lq4/4l80e setup, I'm also getting the radiator setup which i'm going to see if there's a way to retrofit that and get it to work. I'm going to replace the seals and maybe step the cam up a bit and then just clean it up I think.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
It's been a busy weekend, I got the cab and bed off. The rear cab bolts came out with no problems but the fronts were a different story. The previous owner welded in home brew floor pan patches and welded them right over the front cab bolts. I had to cut an access hole just so I could get to the bolt heads, but overall it went better than I planned.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
Progress has been slow but steady, I'm only able to get to it about one night a week but its getting there. Got the drivetrain out and got all of the rear suspension out, just need to borrow a set of spring compressors to remove the front crossmember and then I can start cleaning up the frame. I also purchased a KBS Chassis paint kit in gloss black that I'll go over everything with.

Got some more work done this weekend, all the front suspension is off and the frame is ready to start being cleaned up.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
It was too cold to work in the shop that has the frame so I messed with the motor a little the other night, pulled all the wiring off, all the accessories and the exhaust manifolds. I also did a compression check and all seems well. I'm going to swap the cam out and I figure I'll just have the heads rebuilt at the same time, maybe have them ported and polished and if I go that far I may go with a FAST truck intake and throttle body, that will be determined by funds when I get to that point. for now it needs a gasket kit to get rid of all the leaking ones...which is pretty much all of them.

Re: Jason's 1965 Daily Driver Build
After much grinding, drilling, chiseling and pounding with a bfh I've got the frame down as far as I can before paint, the only brackets remaining are the cab, bed, and core support brackets and the rear most cross brace and the radiator support cross brace just to hold the frame together.
I'm planning on having the frame blasted before I start with the KBS frame system. Before I have it blasted I'm going to go ahead and cut out for the c-notch, just ran out of time that night.
