Re: 1971 k30 LS3 500hp 4l80e, 205, Dana 70f, 14bff,
Ok... The oe sticker on the glove box door says this is a real Cheyenne super. I absolutely do not like green vehicles and since I'm making it into a k30 4x4 I think changing it to blue and white wont hurt anything. Opinions?

It is a numbers matching truck too, original 350 v8, th350, and 12 bolt truck. Taking all that out and selling them. If it was a nicer truck body wise I wouldn't take it apart.

So would any of you do a color change and alter the truck indefinitely into a k30 on a numbers matching cheyenne super?

As far as color, it would not matter to me. You are going to do so much body work there won't be any factory color anyway. And very little factory anything else. So go for it! your truck, your choice.
About the motor/trans, did you buy them matched from a doner are separately? Is the trans already a 4X or are you making it one?

Re: 1971 k30 LS3 500hp 4l80e, 205, Dana 70f, 14bff,
Its your truck do what you want to it , fuel injection , ls engine , overdrive trany , are all major improvements in drivability for that truck , not to mention the brake upgrades , Im getting ready to paint a blue truck green , just the opposite of what you are doing , cutting an 8 foot bed to 7 foot and a foot out of the frame , 500 horse ly6 , and hydroboost also , do what you want with your truck .

Thank you all for your replies. Very much appreciated. I will just keep moving forward with the build. In the end I will have a repro spid and have it say blue instead of olive. Thank you again everyone.

From the outside it Looks like a 60f other then stamped 70f. But inside its 35 spline inners and 35 spline outers throughout. 60's have 30 spline outers. As I rebuild the 70 I will post detailed pics of the tear down and rebuild. Same with the 205 and the 14bff.

Re: 1971 k30 LS3 500hp 4l80e, 205, Dana 70f, 14bff,
I like your vision here as far as the parts and engine/trans/transfer case choices go. I've got a similar idea in my head for a rust free 69 GMC C20 I have. I like the 6.2 and a 4L80 is the most trouble free transmission that we see in our shop. Very tough. I was looking at 67-72 only axles because I didn't want to use an axle that is wider than stock, I'm not lifting the truck at all so in your case a little wider axle with a 6 in lift won't really matter. I think you should paint the truck whatever color you like! With all these changes, you're not going to have any value on the originality of the truck, all the value is based on how COOL it is!

Thanks. I am still making plans, tossing them, making new plans, and so on. Soon I am going to need to write down things! You know, before my head explodes.

Re: 1971 k30 LS3 500hp 4l80e, 205, Dana 70f, 14bff,
do you know if your new disk set up will work on an older ho52 rear end? I need to update the brakes on my '64 K20 and no-one carries brakes for it anymore. I would like to figure out the disk brakes or modify 14bf to fit the older housing. If you have any good ideas. I would appreciate it.
Thanks, ps. this is going to be a cool truck when you get it together. |

I am told that the 14bff disc hardware fits the ho52 but I personally have never seen a ho52 to compare.

Re: 1971 k30 LS3 500hp 4l80e, 205, Dana 70f, 14bff,
This is a possibility as I have been talking to the owner. I don't want to jinx it so I won't say much other than it would take over my build and would get the ls3, 4l80, 205, d70f, 14bff with 6" lift on new Bfg 35's. we will have to wait and see how this plays. I will keep you guys in the loop.
