Yes this is a very strange set up if you look at the pics you can see the front leaf springs also the pedals coming up from the bottom of the floor board.
It still has the 235 I6 in it with a manal trans it looks like they had it running and driving like that at some point. I try not to think about all the crazy stuff I see on these old trucks too much, but this is crazy!

I have 4 of these and this is this is the best one out of the bunch spring is good and it dosen't feel all loose
