Re: My new '67 project.
Oh Happy Day.
I found a good running 70s 350 on craigslist locally and sold my 235 on craigslist to a guy in CA.

Re: My new '67 project.
The 454 is out and guy delivered the 350.
I'm picking up everything to freshen up the engine, degreaser, paint, plugs, hoses and fluids. Should have it ready to go in about a week. Work schedules suck!!!

I'm looking forward to the next update. I don't know if you are aware or not but the small block v8 uses different engine stands than the big block. The big block engine stands are worth more money and are more rare than the I6 and small block v8 stands. You will have to pick up a set of small block v8 engine stands. |

Re: My new '67 project.
Thanks Xeen.
Yes I know the motor mounts are different, picked up some this morning. Now I have to find a cool 4 bbl air cleaner and a pair of those big mirrors, like these. Anyone got some they wanna sell?

So, the motor is in, just a few things that need to be buttoned up.
FYI, I got the mirrors.

Re: My new '67 project.
Picking up the truck tomorrow. It's drivable just needs exhaust, and apparently a new carb.
Any recommendations for good 4 bbl for a stock 350?

Re: My new '67 project.
Another update.
Picked up the truck today. Its gonna need some cleaning and tweaking, but at least it's now in my yard. The motor seems strong and very responsive. The front end seems a little "loose" so may need a rebuild. Brakes work good. Anxious to get the exhaust installed so I can really test drive it. The guy I bought the motor from sold me a rear end from a '69 C10 parts truck and dropped it off today. Instead of swapping out the gears we opted for a rear end swap.

Re: My new '67 project.
Been a while since I've updated this post.
Exhaust is done, drove the truck to a couple small car shows. Decided against the "big" mirrors, looking for a pair early 70s sport mirrors. Bought an Edelbrock carb, just haven't put it on yet. Picked up a couple sets of wheels. Stockers and a set of rallys. I'm gonna run the stockers up front with a smaller tire and the ràllys in the rear with the 235s, white walls out, possibly with '55 Chevy hubcaps. Recently I'm having a problem with the starter, which I actually think it could be the flywheel. So tonite my project was to paint the roof and rear window area white, just too much yellow on this thing. I started wet sanding the area when I see some chips that tells me the roof was originall white. So I carefully start sanding thru the yellow and sure 'nuff, WHITE! I got a small area done for now, I'll work on it in the morning. This may take a while but will be well worth it to get the original patina! I'll shoot some pics.

On the roof you may find that after you have painstakingly gone through the process of sanding it all down to white that there are some spots that were previously damaged before it was painted over that will ruin your plan to restore the original white paint so I'm not sure it's worth the trouble, you might want to consider just blocking it and painting it like you were originally thinking. LMC sells truck mirrors that are very nice, I have a pair myself that I purchased for my truck and I am very happy with them. Part numbers in their catalog are 38-5846 and 38-5847. What is the starter doing exactly? Last edited by Xeen; 08-28-2014 at 11:17 AM. |

Re: My new '67 project.
Thanks for the info Xeen.
Actually I'm after the patina so this works out better. Same with the mirrors, I'm looking a used set with a little pitting on them, needs to match the look if the truck. The starter is not engaging all the way (or not at all sometimes) with the flywheel. I've tried 2 starters, same with each. I'm thinking I might have a warped flywheel.

Re: My new '67 project.
Winter and cold weather got in the way of doing any work on the truck.
Had some problems with the tailights, waiting for a new wiring harness. I decided to go with stock mirrors, I really like the way they look on this truck. The motor is running strong but having a little trouble with the shifter not wanting to go in and out of park. Hoping it's just a linkage adjustment fix. Hoping to get the rims and tires swapped out this week. I'll post some pics.

Re: My new '67 project.
Just setting in the yard swing and thought I'd snap a photo.
Been a while since I posted anything. Finally got my tailights working. Mounted up some tires on my red rims and got my side mirrors on. Lookin' pretty snazzy! Lol As ragged as it is I get quite a few compliments. Still liked to get it lowered a bit. Thanks for looking.

Re: My new '67 project.
I wonder if those are GM 1968 front fenders, if they are you could weld up the marker holes and turn them into 1967 fenders and no one would ever know the difference and it would allow you to keep GM sheet metal on the pickup.

Re: My new '67 project.
Xeen, I'm sure ur correct. Funny you should say that cause I'm setting here looking at the truck and was thinking the same thing, ....and "how do I match that paint?"

It would be one of those deals you do when you paint the whole truck. |

Re: My new '67 project.
Right, but right now there's no plans for a repaint, keeping the "shop truck" look.
