Re: Lowering my lifted 77k10

Like I mentioned earlier, pop out the center pin and loose the bottom 3 leafs (from the front). Yes, the fronts have a center pin like the rear.

When I did mine it was fairly easy as I did new bushings, spring bolts, U-bolts, the center pin was a non issue as that was the cheapest bolt in the mix. When I got the u-bolts think the center pin was a couple bucks extra. Made life easy as the entire spring could be removed and the pack re-done on the bench.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Re: Lowering my lifted 77k10

I understand, I already got the rear leafs removed, I had to break my center bolt as it was rusted. So I was wondering if the fronts were the same. Since u said they were it will make it easier for me now Thanks

Re: Lowering my lifted 77k10

Just FYI, those are actually lift kit springs in the front. They are not factory. Nothing about the front springs is factory. Factory springs are tapered. they get thinner away from the axle. You could still do as donut said and pull the bottom three springs out and see how it goes, but my fear is that due to the manufacture of that lift kit intending those springs to live their life as they are now with regards to arch, they could fatigue and break over time if they live in a constant nevagtive arch.

Im not saying they will, nor am i saying you will take out a buss full of nuns, but just letting you know it might be better to start with a set of stock springs, which were desgned to live their life in negative arch.

This is a set of stock leafs on the bottom, vs a 6" lift kit spring on top.

Re: Lowering my lifted 77k10

Pulling out a few to 3 leaf springs in the front is fine but in the rear the leaf spring packs are stock so removing springs with all the pressure on only a "few" old stock springs will probably cause problems being old weak springs will prob break a spring when trying to use. that amount of springs is there for the weight of the truck when it was made so now being older with a few removed won't do you any favors. I would drop the front, measure before and after. then drop the rear in accordance, if the front drops 2" then remove 4" block and add in a 2" block to compensate, which is usually easy to find at an auto wrecker for cheap. Just my 2 cents of safety. Have lifted and dropped a lot of trucks.

Re: Lowering my lifted 77k10

I just removed the blocks from the front and this weekend I'll take a couple springs out from the front. I'll just take the springs out for now and I'll buy a set later on. I don't drive the truck right now but when I do I'll get a set, thanks guys.

Sounds like that should work for you and not cost much either, plus on the road right away.
