Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

So I got the other side capped just used a lot of disk but went well I've been trying to shave those rails by filling it in and grinding smooth but I had to stop to watch the puppy but after that I'm going to straighten up the drivers side fender some more toget the rad support in tomorrow and front clip together.
I trimmed a piece out to make it have a sharper angle like the other side and filled it with flat stock

And for kicks and giggles

I know it's a blurry done pic I'll go snap another in a bit!

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

Yes I have two ground clamps the Lincoln mig has a low duty cycle because it's like 23 years old(my dad said he got it used for a trade for a bull taco before I was even born) and the Molly arc is what I've been using to fill with and just weld because I'm tired of waiting for the mig to cool.. I learned how to tig today... Pretty nifty stuff I need a lot of practice though.

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

Didn't really get as much done as I would have liked but you'll have that stating out tell 3:30 in the morning on Saturday night then waking up at 9 to do a bunch of chores like retro fit a temprapedic long twin into a standard twin bed. Had to chop Alil. Did all new out let's in the room(tired of crap always falling out of them when I'm charging my phone. Got the Lincoln on a wooden 4 wheeled cart(for now) (I need to figur away to make the mig have a better duty cycle I'll talk to a few sparkys tomorrow unless someone wants to chime in it's a old Lincoln "arc" mig) and did some body work! And I figured the bead was leaking on the wheel that keeps going flat from gravel wedge in there from the roll over. And found out why it the springs aren't all the same they cut the coils..... I do plan on getting the front clip all buttoned up by Wednesday to start on the bed. An running boreds then it's tear down finish all the welds after it's all fit well and paint what I can. I think I'm going with the universal rolled c notch for simplicity and not having to fab it all. It's like $89 then get going with some bags with schaders tell I get some more bag goodies... But that frame should get paint and I think I'm getting the 350 this weekend and just wondering what are some things you've guys have done to a th350 trans to really get the power down i know that they're decent for drag racing but I want to be able to get some decent highway Mpgs.

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

Could anyone tell me the pros and cons of the ebay universal rear air bag set ups and of the notches? I've never delt with this stuff and also on the front end with air how should one approach this I understand that there's a lot of places that can bind and if I want to run low to the ground do I pic a height and remember the pressure the bags are at and get it aligned for that height?? Also tire wear and hidden other facts I dont know about it's as clear as mud to me but I have a broad idea and I wanna know from you guys.

wow, your radiator is going to be very small. Or are you going to put it in front of the radiator support bracket?

I may just put it in front of it and make the mount part of a shroud. Also i know I have a ton of grinding left.

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

New car my grandparents were gonna trade it in but they were offered 500 bucks for it the only thing wrong is the passenger and rear windows cables broke and need to replaced and it has 126k and was all was baby'd it's a 99 olds intrigue. I'm going to take it to the swap meet Sunday and hopefully have a trailer built for it to.. I have an axle in the back yard and it has a hitch. I plan on throwing new tires on for winter and tiger pawing the chrome off the bead so I can take the inner tubes my grandpa put in out and tint it and put a touch screen DVD/navi with Bluetooth head unit for long trips. Probably going to change the oil tomorrow and filter and air filter window wipers to Bosch (because they don't squeek. Also going to upullit to get a bed floor then find somewhere that has one inch angle to do the bed(so that can be lined). Did some sea foam to it and nothing happened and filled it up with 91 and am going to throw the hypermax on it because no one wants to buy it. Should help with mileage but it doesn't need any help with power or mpg its heathy and way more peppy than a metro. So pretty psyched. Now time to slowly trade stuff for parts for the rat rod and buy a diesel.

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

Got lucky and the last window track broke in the car so I got the two fronts to do and then change a couple dirt bike tires for a race on Sunday! Then I'm going to get on the fifty tonight and get that rad support done and inner fenders and maybe the grille so I can start the bed this weekend or on Columbus day weekend (we get 4 days off! I'm cool with that)

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

Sorry fellas I was gone for a while. But I am bac I was a little burned out on the truck but now that im working 5 8s and not 6 10s im going to start working on this baby. Ive got the work done to get my motor which I plan on getting sometime this week and start tearing her down and putting parts in the washer. Ive been figuring out what I need for it ive gone with getting a 2600 stall and shift kit for the turbo 350 and a 10 bolt rear with a posi out of a camor then with the motor very mild cam maybe some vortec heads if I can bundle up with the axle visor steering colum and see if I can get the heads. The motor comes with some impala headers I plan on chopin up and tigging to fit. 1-5/8" to 3" collector so yes be prepared theres going to be a lot of work done now. Especially since the garage is finallh insulated and dryed and lite up well.

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

I pulled the seat out so far getting readt to put in my 1/4" rear cab spacers/weight distribution pads. Also if any buddy wants a 50 chevy pickup seat please let me know
I did this to get ready for the tranny tunnel as well as the mounts so I could work on bolting it up ik it doesnt seem like I did much but im carefully planing these things out on the rest of it since im not making as much money now because I have class every Wednesday for the next six months at the hall. But oh well Ill just have to do some trading and making good deals.
but im going to trim that other inner fender well and maybe drag the hood up and see what she looks like... can anyone explain the mechanics of the hood latch and what they have done to make one work?

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

So im deeply interested in the scat 383 crank and some vortec heads whats your guy's veiw on this. Maybe some do's and dont's? Im shooting for 425hp and a good amount of torque. I have a np435 4 speed in the shed or a th350 fresh rebuild a few years ago as well but im not sure which one to use I like the idea of a manual for the simple fact they can hold some power but would it be alright to run a th350 with a 2500 stall. Im planning on running like 3.08s or 3.43s (10 bolt posi I have a pick from) im not sure if I should use a higher gear? I want some cruising fun where I wont see 5k on the tack just to go down the interstate doin 80 you know, but I always want to walk on everyone with an exhaust on their cars.
Also thanks for the advice. Ive got word from my neightnor (hes an older gent but is deep in the hot rod community) that he knows an old boy who will redo my seat I might do that since I be I can go with some sweet vynil with the ribs like something rad or cloth i havent decided since im far from that happening yet I still have some body choppin to do and ill post pics off the goodies still in the bed because tomorrow is pay day and im getting a hoist

Re: My first build 50 on a 03 s dime frame

So with the 2 weeks off ive had I ended up fixing everyones stuff.. 3800 series upper and lower intake manifold gaskets and jusr regular maintenance map sensor egr block and cts and blah. Then my buddy picked up a 65 ford with an olds 455 in it and he bought dream beams and shackle drop. But yeah I rebuilt a quadrajet for him and all sorts of stuff because he wanted to dd the thing. So it has a ton of poly bushings but I have got some stuff lined for my 50 now I found a column I want and got the crossmember out. So its time to build a new one for dual exhaust. Also santa clause was nice this year I got the 20v lithium dewalt tool kit so it will be nice going to the jy to go get that bed floor.
