Re: Got Wice? You Shoulda Got A V8
Driveshafts. Every car needs one and, unless you own a machine shop, it isn't something you make yourself. The original shaft looked like a pencil; 1-1/2 inches in diameter with little, tiny connectors on it. Here's one with Spicer 50 u-joints on each end to handle the torque of that LS2 and balanced at 3000 rpm. Kinda short when you're used to C10's, isn't it?

Re: Got Wice? You Shoulda Got A V8
That gets most of the outside done. Now a bit of upholstery is in order. The original seats were dark grey cloth and the door panels and dash black plastic. Since the seats were stained and really didn't look good with that metallic orange paint a call to Katzkins got a set of leather covers and some matching brown and Autumn hide for trimming. SEM makes a vinyl paint for plastic that matches both the Autumn and Dark brown leather so the dash and center console were painted brown and the kneepad painted to match the orange leather. Sewing the door panels took some time but it was time well spent. The results are stunning.

Re: Got Wice? You Shoulda Got A V8
Yesterday I rthought I had a pretty good handle on the LS2 engine harness but I just couldn't get it to look right. I made a bracket to mount the ECM over the shock tower but the wiring really didn't look right . To make a long story short, I had to take out the brake pedal assembly, the brake master cylinder, the clutch pedal assembly and the cluch master cylinder and routed the engine harness underneath those and up inside the front fender to hide most of it. Now I need to get the OBD2 port and drive by wire pedal harness through the firewall. Did I mention I hate wiring?

Re: Got Wice? You Shoulda Got A V8
While we're on the subject of wiring, the LS2 is a Drive by Wire engine. While it can be converted to a cable throttle it is much easier th add the DBW wiring and pedal sensor. The GTO pedal sensor is about $285.00 but the Corvette LS2 sensor and pedal will work if the correct changes are made to the E40 ECM J1 harness. By the way, if you bought an engine fgrom a donor vehicle with the ECM and engine harness you are missing the J1 harness. You can get one from the EFI Connection ( or others ) that has the OBD2 port and DBW wiring with the connector necessary to marry either a GTO pedal or a Corvette pedal to the ECM. Then the Corvette pedal and sensor can be purchased for $72.00 from Pace Performance. Much less expensive. I took the Corvette pedal sensor and plug welded it to the Mazda cable operated pedal hangar as shown in the photo's giving a DBW pedal in the stock location.

Re: Got Wice? You Shoulda Got A V8
Not a project for the faint of heart. You have to gut the Mazda and there is enough welding to teach a whole class at Wyotech, BUT, when it's done it is a heart attack! If you do the work yourself, build more of the pieces than you buy you can get it done for about 12K and two years of your life.

Just waiting for a primary belt to assemble the drivetrain and time away from the miata to finish the tank. When finished it will look like this:
