Yeah, i had a hard time believing i was looking at the matching pair in the guys driveway the day i went and purchased them. As for my 71, it will be nice to have a short wide big block i wont' have to worry about a few road dings and some age lines..

A short update, finished nearly all the tear down..
While waiting for the magical day when a boatload of Porterbuilt arrives, my son and I are doing an engine swap into his 75 k5..

the boy getting back in the work mode post Air Force basic and Tech School

While looking at these two photos, i got to thinking these frames look like Swiss cheese.. one thing I will do once mock up is done, identify unused holes and fill them in..

I think that i have convinced myself to paint rather than powder coat the chassis.. Given the area i live in, if were to have any moisture get in under a scratch or chip and begin the rust adventure, i would be pretty unhappy

Minor update while awaiting a few more parts.. Some of the front Dropmember components arrived!!!!, I would like to echo what has been said many times, this stuff is SWEET!!!

Since the PO had welded the notch in, I have a bit of grinding to do, then some general cleanup on the frame before I begin.. This week should be fun!

Well, got things started, was interrupted several times as the family wanted to occupy my time..
In the midst of that, and doing final assembly on a replacement engine for the son's Blazer i did manage to get the install started..
I didn't take any pics really, but shot a real short video snippet.. So far so good,

Between work and the holiday, along with trying to finish the engine swap and minor suspension/steering renew on the sons K5, i have had no time on the truck..
A few more parts are arriving however..





Needless to say I am more anxious to get this going than ever!

I agree, Might not be the perfect wheels but they will certainly do for now.


Stalled for a few weeks while I wait on parts, so I have been trying to finish the engine swap in the sons Blazer, typical of any quick project, once we opened the hood the scope jumped up a few.. We are on the final leg of getting things back together, new engine is in, next is the exhaust and a bit of snooping to see why we have no spark..

Anyway we went from this dirty mess (already a partly cleaned engine bay)


to something that looks a ton better (still not finished in this shot)


all in preparation for this; (mild full roller 350)



He wants to do an axle swap as well to put some 3.73's under there, but that can wait!!!

Back on the truck (well at least for the moment)
While waiting on some parts to get done at the powder-coat shop, I was finishing the mockup on a couple things.

I have a question about the 2 piece trailing arm cross-member.
In the pic below, i am curious if I have the frame brackets flipped. Before I drill the new third hole, i figured i had better ask.

Been hammering away on GoldMember as of late, so no truck love.. although I have not been completely slacking…
Thanks to Rick at Chevy Metal, (BigBlock68) I pulled a shortcut move in the form of a cab and bed pretty much ready for final prep/paint. Did this by latching on to one of the project trucks he had tucked away..
Here’s a spy photo of the project when I drug it home and was taking it apart… This bed floor and my original cab will be going onto project Park Service.. but that's yet another whole story


So, in order to clear out and make some room, I also took the frame from that truck and put it together with a variety of parts I am not going to use.. Just no time to build them all

The gathering of parts continues too, Slosh Tubz arrived - WooHoo, plus materials for the bed floor came in.
I decided to do a wood bed using Ash, and will be attempting to ebonize it..
should look like this when done.

dang, just a wee bit of time since I posted on the forum, been living life and enjoying family.. that and working on everyone's projects but my own.

Well, finally retiring from working side jobs for the most part, which will free some time to progress my own projects. More to come soon enough..

Had a couple hours to poke around in the shop, most of that was helping my son tack on an outer rocker and hang a door on his Blazer, but then I finished the basic bracket for the Endo CVT tank. Leveraging the GSI raised bed floor brackets I had, it seems like this will work out well.

On the backside, my idea is this will be where the control components, relay's etc... will go. I also cycled the suspension up and down to ensure the driveshaft would have plenty of clearance below the tank..

Finished things with Drilling and tapping for the caliper mounting brackets.

Shortly after, I realized I had misplaced the locking sleeves for the lower control arms. A call and chat with Nathan got them and a set of LS engine mounts on the way. Lots to do in the meantime, so making it a roller will have to wait.

A few misc updates,
Finally got around to breaking down the frame to finish weld, prep and paint everything.





Needed a few supplies before I could paint, so I began some mockup of other items, here you can see me goofing around with the 14in, Baer brake kit from Travis at Pro Performance, (Yes I know they are on opposite sides.. just wanted to see both options)



When that was done, I turned some attention to the cab and thought about getting the initial American Autowire harness started



Knowing how one thing leads to another, I took a side step shortly after getting started because I was looking at the lack of brake and clutch pedal hanging in the cab and didn't want to run into any interference trying to hang them after wiring was started.. So I went ahead and got them in place as well.



thinking along the same lines, I also went ahead and did the Wilwood clutch master cylinder and bracket setup I got from Capt Fab

This is a pretty slick setup for sure..






Hard to tell from this picture, but the alignment with the standoff is about a 1/6 of an inch off. A quick trip to the belt sander took care of that..


I did get about 80% of the frame and various parts painted, but some materials did not arrive so it is back to wiring the cab, taking into consideration how the American Autowire kit, the Dakota Digital HDX, and my GM LS3 harness will all have to play nice.. Makes for some fun!

indeed, went together nicely. I posted the pics on his thread as well, and he mentioned he has updated part of the kit since I got mine (another indicator I have been taking forever on this project). lol..
