Re: Simple '49 Truck

Thanks fellas. So far so good on the schedule. Probably going to be off by a month but oh well. Didn't originally account for paint because I wasn't going to paint it but now I'm having second thoughts.

AD I went with the Sanderson LS10 headers.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Thanks Chizzler

More progress made over the last week. Engine is more or less in. Need to make a small notch in the frame to clear the passenger side header. The brake bracket had to get cut down as well for exhaust clearance on the driver side.

Not super happy with the current stance but it looks like Scott’s sent the wrong spindle. Should be able to get 2” from the drop spindle and will see about getting a shorter coil over. That should get the ride height lower and give more adjustment in the shocks without sacrificing much for travel. On the rear we’re just going to move the cross member up and plate it just under the original bed height. Should be able to gain about 2” there as well.

Steering is next on the list. All the parts showed up Saturday. As soon as the shifter shows up the tunnel can get completed.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Quick update. Talked to Scott’s and the new spindles are on their way. Can’t change the coil over length though because it screws up the geometry. It’s over my head so I’m taking his word for it. To get any lower the crossmember will have to be moved up so we’ll see how it looks with the spindles first and go from there.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

I say its looking great. Motor fits really good. You could also go to a little smaller diameter tire to get it down a little more. Dang that dude does nice work.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Steering got finished up over the weekend and the motor mounts were burned in. New drop spindles are in and the rear cross member is now raised to just under the stock bed height. It helped with the stance but I'm still a little torn on the height.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Not sure if this will help anyone else but I sketched out a wiring diagram to work with using the following components.

Speedway 12 circuit harness
PSI Conversions stand alone engine harness
Signal Stat series 800 turn signal
OEM headlight switch
Viper 211HV keyless entry
Hydraulic brake light switch

Threw the dog house on real quick to get some dimensions for the wheels. Those will be getting ordered up today. Shifter also got installed.

It's a 64-68 mustang tank. Picked it up from Tanks Inc.

Opened up the kick panels and found more rot than expected. Little extra work but is much better now.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

ya, not much sense in fixing up a truck just to leave a bunch of rust hidden.

Chizzler, did you go with Lizard Skin in either of your rigs? I can't remember.

Couldn't tell you why they made it that way. The neck itself is straight and the tank mounting surface has the angel built into it. I’m planning to have the cap sit just below bed level and won’t be using a door.

Dan, I used the same tank. The angle made the cap a little tight to the bowl at the back...but not bad.

Henney - Apologies!

Re: Simple '49 Truck

Never used lizard skin. We sprayed raptor liner in both rigs. Comes out like a sprayed bed liner but not as rubbery. Has held up very good.

Re: Simple '49 Truck

AD, is that the bowl from Tanks? It looks great.

http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/pa...prod/prd89.htm

Got the cab sand blasted and found a few holes. Kind of expected to find something. The build was going a little too smoothly. Bruce will be getting these fixed up and then back on frame for fitting up the exhaust.

Henney, that bowl was a chrome plated kitchen sink drain I picked up at the hardware store for $17. Turned the center out with a lathe to size for the neck opening. The bowl / drain had a screw on back that sandwiched it to the board.
