Almost as funny as untrue. And I get a kick out those who refer to Flowmasters as if they are all the same. Actually, same goes for Magnaflows. I ran the 6" round on my '91 Suburban w/6.2 diesel w/3" exhaust. It was either a low runble or all out crackin' depending on throttle. I will say I did feel a noticeable gain in power. I swear it brought it up from 135 to 150 hp!!

Re: whats a loud exhaust system?

Everyone seems to like my exhaust system, even though of our 7 67-72 trucks they say mines the "loudest". It's a stock 5.3 Vortec with Camaro LS3 manifolds, 2-1/2" duals, a balance tube, cheap Thrush mufflers $29.95 Jegs, (Flow-master rip-offs) and 18" long 4" stainless tips. I like it. YES its a GMC and has a leaf spring rear.

Re: whats a loud exhaust system?

Nice Lee..

This was "loud"
BB w/ headers, 2 1/2 straight back all the way. Only these dual resonator tips. Sounded really good actually like you say just cruising. Go down the highway for a while got old. Oh to be young again.. I might add its probably not legal.

Re: whats a loud exhaust system?

I can't add much. Other than a couple more questions. Ha

I have a 2 1/4" true dual system, on my 350 SBC, into two 18" Cherry Bombs damn near the rear bumper. It's loudish, I guess. But not super loud.

What effect can one expect, in regards to loudness OR tone, from moving the muffler upstream or downstream in the exhaust system?

I have a 67 Skylark with the same 18" Cherry Bomb, OE single system, replacing the OE muffler. It's a SBB 300. It's much closer to the engine, though, and I find that it is significantly louder than the 350. The little 300 sounds sweet.

Lastly, anybody use Purple Hornies? How do they compare to Cherry Bomb glass packs? About the same?

I'm okay with sacrificing a little flow, for that classic glass pack sound. I think that sound belongs much better on the classics.

Chip Foose disagrees with you and since he builds cars and trucks that win awards and you just post on a board about trucks I'll follow his lead!

Chip Foose more than likely uses magnaflow because they pay his bills.....

Re: whats a loud exhaust system?

the flowmasters sound more "tinny" to me and I like the sound. I have flowmaster copies and I like the sound. I used to have glasspacks and they were even louder. I also turned the key off and on at high rpms for fun. The flowmasters don't blow up from this either. side exit many flames

Re: whats a loud exhaust system?

I've got long tube headers, and these right on the end of them.
