Man that looks familiar! Glad I could help a buddy out. And glad I got to experience such an original, unmolested truck myself. Talk about a beautiful running and driving truck! It just purrs. I knew if anyone would be able to do that truck justice it was you, Jon. So happy you got it. If you can whip it into anything resembling 654x4's twin truck (above) you'd be doing great. Congrats on getting it home.

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

How much further do the hubcaps project than the sidewalls of the tires? I was thinking of it today while driving in Virginia. After all the complaints they must have received from 61-63, the redesigned new caps for 64, are flatter, less exposed to impact.

The entire cap sticks out further . When I unloaded this white truck off the trailer it took out one cap on the trailer fender. The 17.5 wheel center is pretty tall and these 3/4 to one ton caps are taller than the 1/2 ton caps. I will have to measure. Were they getting complaints ?

It almost looks like its set up for a person to stand on the front bumper extension platform and serve as a guard rail.
That's exactly what it's for, both front and rear. You fill the water tank, run the pump in the back, and then spray "on the roll" while someone else drives. Perfect for fighting smaller brush fires.

Sweet find!

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

I assume they were getting complaints. The narrower redesign must have taken the old profile into consideration. Though without the additional ribbing of the 66 design the 64-65 were failing from impact during installation. Wonder how many caps were scrapped at the factories till someone must have come up with an installation tool. A Service Bulletin might have been created.

Oh look spare parts! 2 hubcaps left on this baby. Located just off I-81 in Pa.

Looks like the pictures disappeared from your post ? Anyway, if you put a straight edge on the rim the bead edge is level with the center hub of the wheel. Hubcaps stick out on these 17.5s .

Anyone have a takeoff OG paint red stepside gate ?
Not a take-off but looks to be original paint in great shape. Just have to talk him out of it... or find where he parks. Link below, see post # 194

to keep from chipping paint on wheels when taking off caps, slide in a putty knife then slide screw driver on top and pry this way it doesn't chip the paint the putty knife takes the abuse. saw this in my 48 fleetline manual...

Re: 1965 K20 My Latest Find

Hey 60-66, I have a question on finding new 17.5in tires for 3/4ton trucks. Where did you find yours for your trucks? I presume you might be putting new ones on the really nice 65 k20 you have but wondering where did you locate tires like those?

Congrats on the beautiful truck!!!

Good info Randy, some of these you can actually grab and pull off to.

THANKS!! On the Panel I located them used from another member but they are available from Yokohama, I have several sets and like their tires. The 4x4 has 17 inch, those are proving to be difficult in this exact style. They are available in 17.5s.
