If you swapped the dizzy out in the past, that could be part of your problem. If you dropped the shaft back down the hole and by that time the oil pump shaft turned and the new dizzy going in is now off a couple teeth. Rotate the plug wires on the cap a couple holes, then try re timing the engine. This will give you the ability to turn it without hitting the fire wall.

Part of your problem was started when you replaced the dizzy last time, as the dizzy is pulled it turns and it also turns the oil pump shaft. As the new dizzy is installed and does not align with the oil shaft you turned the dizzy to far to align. The quickest repair is to pull the plug wires and rotate them 1 or 2 plug holes. now re time the engine and the dizzy will no longer hit the firewall. This will help all your problems and have it checked with a digital timing light to check advance.

I would verify where your rotor is pointing at #1 TDC. Take out #1 spark plug, stuff a rag tightly in the hole (don't push it into the hole, just plug the end) with a screwdriver and bump the starter until the rag pops. Pull your distributor cap and see if it is pointing to #1 spark plug wire or if its point off into lala land. If it is not pointing at #1, the correct fix is to pull the distributor and move it however many teeth so it points at #1. The lazy fix is to just rearrange the wires so #1 is wherever the rotor is pointing now.

ok so i looked at the dissy tonight the rotor points to the back of the carb not to number 1 so its a tooth off. rotated the wires and could not get her to start. counter clockwise. and move dissy as mush as i could no start. i think i might have found another problem thats not helping much either. its geting better but can still hear it some. i need a plug for the manifoid. the air tube rusted off. its the big one tube not the 4 littles any one know what size and thread it would be? also when i did the water pump i took off the air pump tubes and alot of vacc lines that wheere not needed any more. i know have the dissy going to the pass side port on the stock qjet. is this the right one? seems to run better that way. also the advance in the dissy is working as you can hear a change when pluged or unpluged
