Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
the blue one out east for 12 grand! You should be able to fly out and drive it home for that amount! The A/C belt hasn't been on the compressor for awhile (rusted pulley). Don't like the carma on the blue one. Black one looks good, but looks can be deceiving!Buyer beware!

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
Here is a link to a whole bunch of pics on my photobucket --
http://s1110.photobucket.com/user/Ma...?sort=3&page=1 Going thru Hart Rod's checklist of the usual problem spots -- Cab corners -- driver side showing some rust-- possibly thru. pass side looks ok. from the welds i am guessing this is all original sheet metal? Outer rockers -- driver side looks good, pass side looks good Inner rockers -- not sure? Cab supports -- Look ok to me Front fender bottoms -- both look good Inside kickpanels -- driver side showing some rust, doesnt appear to have gone thru. pass side looks like only surface rust Bottom of the doors -- driver side surface rust. pass side bubbling Top of cab -- Pass side looks a little funky toward the rear. Front edge looks ok. BTW -- Can anyone tell what's up with that windshield seal?? Firewall -- all looks good to me Under the battery (inner fender/core support area) -- looks good to me Inside of the bed -- looks good to me Bottom of the tailgate -- minor surface rust on the driver side corner? PLEASE take a look and let me know your thoughts. I've done my fair share of 66-67 GM A-Bodys and know what to look for and what to run from. B ut this would be my first 67-72 Chevy truck. I like this one a lot and $12K seems reasonable given how prices have gone up recently. Thanks again for your input!! |

Has the owner told you of any frame modifications, or have you asked him?

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
Did a quick craigslist search in ca , I see your problem. I thought Ontario , Canada prices were nutty! Good luck with your search , the blue truck has a lot of good points , I just can't get my head around 12k for it.

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
A few questions come to mind:
1) Since you said you're looking for an "unrestored" truck, does that mean you are going to restore it? -if so- 1a) How much money do you have in the kitty? 1b) How "deep" would you go? 1c) How much do you know..or are willing to learn about the process? 2) If you want an unrestored driver, then you REALLY have to know what you're getting. How does it *feel*? How does it *sound*? How does it *track*? Read: See it, feel it, drive it. But wait! I would never be so bold as to suggest what someone should do about this gearhead stuff. Too emotional are these purchases. On it's face, the blue one looks nice. I suspect the seller is very honest. I may have glossed over this, but from the pics of the firewall, it clearly looks like a full repaint. There's rust to deal with... Even though the rust looks like it is generally in the typical spots. The floor of the cab and the top of the windshield look troublesome to me. If I were pondering it for myself, I'd want to consider the fact that it would have to come apart...all the way to the frame.... and start with the restoration process in ernest. Read that with a capital $$$$. And also with a capital "F"-"U"-"N". So, for my money, and short of getting in a plane and inspecting it myself, and whether they are scarce as hen's teeth or not, I'd enjoy shopping until I found a *completely unrestored* truck that I had to take apart and start the proce$$. Or, I'd change my tune and do another one like mine. I have $30k in a frame off resto-mod...ground up...(almost) stock running gear (350/350/3.07's), and it's probably only worth about $15k. If I had a gas station, I could drive it to New York and back ten times without hearing a driveline or suspension thud or squeak. But it's just a driver. So, really, it depends on what you are looking for. As for me, if I were picking one out for a full resto or a stock driver, and after pondering the pictures, I'd do some more shopping . Then again, I might be booking a plane ride to Burnsville, NC to drive at that red one. Then again, you fall in love...you fall in love. And it's probably a very nice truck.

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
You say you are looking for a truck and your first post was November 18th. I don't know if just decided to get a truck in the last couple weeks or have been looking for quite a while but a lot of the fun in getting a truck is in the hunt. The side bonus with the hunt is the knowledge you gain every time you check out a truck. It sounds to me like you know what you want so now take what ever time it takes to find the right truck and as you can tell you will get all the help and advice you need from this site

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
My hole thing with these trucks is one thing I'm not a body man cancer to me is work and time i really don't want to invest in.Thats why i take some cardboard and if its on some place paved take you roller cart and roll under the dang thing If you see cancer in the floor board Unless its going for like 500.00 and it has a 396 400 and some other sweet deals like a straight bed And a Coil spring rear end with a 12 bolt Posi nice but i will take the peg leg.
At least you will have a parts truck to steal the stuff you really want or sell to pay for your truck that your going to buy But Cancer in or near the windshield is a major no no If you a body guy them they have a shot Cancer in the floor boards is still a no no for me rocker not bad but finding one with no cancer in the floor or the top of the cab where in business. My 1967 3 door suburban one one problem cancer in one rocker panel as you can see its one straight mother even the quarter panels are straight bought this one 16 years ago for $400.00 and the guy even towed it to my house It did not have the front Fender clip no motor or trans But the rest of its there. The 1968 longhorn payed $400.00 for it at a tow yard 396 400 with Air No cancer every thing i bought 10 years ago i have one deal barker No Cancer Rust is different |

Re: Help with Buying 71 Cheyenne SWB
Looks like the spid is still on the inside of the glove box lid which is good. Looking at the front signal lights there isn't a front bumper with the truck but that isn't a big deal.
