Just wait. How much do you think gas will be when ALL the gas stations are owned by towelheads ?

I don't know what you guys are complaining about, I pay nearly $5/gallon normally over here in the UK, makes running a 350 a little on the costly side compared to the average 1.6L eurobox!

What we are complaining about ,is to keep our country from doing to us what your country did to you.Isn't the biggest part of that $5 a gallon taxes? Our taxes are not what is driving the price. It is supposed to be the price of crude. As the price of crude went down last week the price of gas went up!In the west it was because of a gas line rupture,in the east a power failure. They are all ready saying there is a shortage of heating oil. And to think,I hate getting on the political board!

Yep, about 90% is tax, believe me, nobody here is too pleased about it. We had demonstrations across Europe a couple of years ago and in the UK when most noteably farmers blockaded oil terminals and stopped fuel getting out. My wife and I got trapped on holiday in the south of France with no gas anywhere to be seen, no day trips out and no fuel for the generator that supplied us with electricity so even light was rationed. Kinda had to be creative on the entertainment front!

I'm sure that it'll just be a temporary blip over there, at least you have an oil man in charge, surely it's in Mr Bush's interest to keep the oil flowing! I'm looking forward to my trip whatever gas costs!

smokekiki, I've spent a couple of days in San Francisco on a stopover from a week or so in Maui on a corporate event paid for by my wifes employer (IBM) but other than that nope, not spent any time over there. We're really looking forward to the trip.

It's about three weeks until we hit Arizona so hopefully they'll have put a bandaid on the pipe by then and things will be flowing again.

Perhaps they could use my old favourite exhaust fix, a coke can with the ends cut off, two hose clamps and some firegum, (exhaust assembly paste) guaranteed to last for at least a year and to pass the UK's annual safety inspection!

Is the gas shortage still in effect in Phoenix??
I am heading out that way again tomorrow, and
am wondering about the rental car situation, and

The shortage is mainly centered in the Phoenix metro area. If you're traveling outside of Phoenix (like Tucson, etc) you won't be impacted much. Also, there IS gas available, but it's real inconvenient to wait in line and it's awfully expensive. According to the news, it'll be a couple weeks before things get back to normal.

Those of us old enough to remember the 1973 shortages - it's just like that. Line extending out into the streets, hot tempers, etc.

87 is around 1.49 around here. The during the hours after Hurricane Cluadette there were only 2 gas stations that had electricity. I am proud to say that neither station jacked its prices. In fact most places lowered prices to help out. The only place that has raised prices is Lowes and mainly the stuff related to roofing but it was nothing outragous. As far as I know in Texas price jacking is a crime.

Had to pay $2.70 a gallon in Phoenix today with a 30 min wait in line . I had passed about 20 or 25 stations and none of them were selling gas so I had to bite the bullet for $2.70 . I saw one guy with a mini van full of jerry cans selling gas in a parking lot . I stopped and talked to him and he would sell me all the gas I needed at $5.00 a gallon. Some stations were charging $4.00 to $4.25 a gallon . Even worse Some people can't find any gas for their cars because availability is so hit & miss..

This "OMG GAS SHORTAGE!!!" BS is gonna be the nail in Napolitano's coffin...I can't complain about other things she's done (anyone who actually tries to get school funds allocated to the schools is at least a little cool...) but she's really missed the boat, the bus, and the plane on this one...the second people started freaking out (the sad thing is this shortage is more caused by the people freaking out about the possible lack of gas, not by an actual lack of gas!) she should've instituted, at the very least, rationing-by-plate in Maricopa county. And yes, by plate. The idiots filling up everything they've got (boats, mowers, etc etc) are really screwing things up. Just because you have it does not mean it needs gas now.

I say Maricopa county because surprise, surprise, the rest of the state is doing just fine. I felt pretty damn happy about filling up the '70 (with no wait!) for $1.83 a gallon for premium the other day when my mom called and told me she got to spend an hour in line to pay $1.89 for regular!

My sister even went so far as to get up at 2:30AM to catch a shipment at Albertsons just so she could fill up her Saturn...

The highest I've seen it go for in Tucson today was $1.79 for Exxon 87. I topped off and filled 2 jerry cans at the Texaco across the street at $1.75 for 87.
