Re: vintage camper shells
Does not matter what state the topper is located in - I have a buddy who will go after it wherever its at - he's coming in with my 66 Chevy Custom Camper tomorrow all the way from Oregon to here in Alabama so seriously, I don't care where its at

Is that a Sportsliner? I got one of those a few years back. They made em in San Jose

Re: vintage camper shells
I would LOVE a vintage topper for a long-bed step-side.
If anyone knows of one in Alabama, N or S Carolina, Georgia, or anywhere along I-75 up to Detroit, let me know!

Re: vintage camper shells
You and everyone else Brad! I've found long fleet, short fleet and even short step campers. I do know they made them back then but don't think they were really popular for the long steps. I've resorted to narrowing my Sportsliner enough to fit the truck. Still have an eye out for an original one but man they are tough to find. I saw one a few years back on a short step F*** that was pretty restored, super clean and 1500$ . I almost choked on the coffee I was drinking. Sad thing is, someone bought it pretty quick. Crazy.

Re: vintage camper shells
Quote:
I think the most difficult pieces to fabricate would be the trim piece that goes along the perimeter at the front and back--a 90-degree bent piece that starts at the bottom on one side, goes up and over and down the other side, trimming the joint where the ends and the sides meet. The hard part would be putting the 90 in the curved piece over the top, but a shrinker/stretcher tool from Eastwood would work. If I'm going to do all that, though, I think I'd rather just build a tube "hoop" frame for each stake pocket, take it to an upholstery shop and have them make a canvas tent to go over the tubes, with a zipper door in the back. That way I can keep the back of the truck open all the time, until I go camping. The canvas will fold and sit on a shelf, with the tube frames next to it. -Brad

Re: vintage camper shells
Yes, for sure. Indeed, it was on ebay sometime ago. I only recently noticed while combing through this "vintage camper shell" thread that this very cool windowless model had not been posted here. I love it! fits that truck perfectly!

Re: vintage camper shells
That's a nice one! And a neat truck all-around. Is the shell finished/paneled on the inside? Oh, by the way, welcome to the truck forum! I saw your initial post was your first. Feel free to put more up on that cool truck and shell combo.

Re: vintage camper shells
Thats pretty cool there Randy! I think that might be a Sportsman camper shell. All steel but well built. Almost had one for my long step a while ago.
That truck has some cool stuff to it. PTO winch as well. Good luck on the buy!

Re: vintage camper shells
Free Craigslist camper. All aluminum I don't know the brand unfortunately the tag is to weathered to read. Mounted a roof top awning and a solar heated pressurized shower to it. Great for camping
