Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

On my phone so I will keep it short. Painted a few parts. Had the garage temp to 60 but by the time I was finished it was down to 35. Got some orange peel because of the cold. Guess I will have to cut and buff this truck.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I have not taken more photos but the earlier photos of the fenders the paint was still wet and as it dried it leveled out quite a bit so not nearly as much orange peel. Wish it was not so cold.
Worked on it tonight and have been working on the bodywork on the doors and the hood. The hood is just about ready to be sprayed with primer but still have a bit of work on the doors. I hope to het these parts finished and primed tomorrow and paint the green on the inside of the doors.
Its not perfect but I need to be able to drive this truck as soon as possible.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I'm glad it leveled out for you. I don't think I would have tackled paint in these brutally cold temperatures. Well, but then again I guess it's that kind of attitude that is making my project take so long.

It looks really good! I can't wait to see this thing all back together!

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I have been sanding for 2 hours and decided to take a brake and add a few photos.

I really do not like body work.

I'm on the same boat as you, with wanting to get out and drive.

The dried paint pic looks great, MAC71. Keep up the good work.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I got the hood painted but not happy about how it came out. The paint has a metallic in it and it would not flow out and be even. Now it looks like it has strips in it. I think it's because its so cold. I could only get the garage temp to 45 and when I was finished it was down to just above 30. Out side it is 19.

That's looking good Mike! Too bad about the hood. Are you going to redo it, or just run it?

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I worked on it for about 5 hours today and got a lot done. I am stuck on getting the hood aligned as it is to far over to the left and I cant get it to come over to the left. I will wait till later this week and address it.
I have to get more paint for the bed and also get started on the beds body work. I plan to do that this weekend. I want to get the front half of the truck a little more done, guess I am just tired of sanding. I am also going to have to repaint the hood but will do that later, right now I just need to get the truck on the road so I don't have to share my wifes truck with her.
Still looking for some used tires but every thing local that I have seen are almost as much as new tires.
Here are a few photos.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

So it's really hard to tell without being there, but what shape are your hinges in? That is what started my whole restoration. I put new hinges on it, and then I couldn't get the hood to line up because the core support was shifted and the new hinges didn't match the previous wreckage . How are the gaps on the doors? It almost looks to me like the driver's side fender needs to slide forward which would move the hinge forward as well. That seems like that would twist the hood towards the passenger side. Also, there is a little adjustment in the rotation of the cab. Is there a possibility it's not on there 100% straight? Again, just me theorizing here

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

The cowl alignment to the hood makes me think maybe the cab is a little twisted on the frame. Just another thought.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I spent 3 hours on the hood tonight. It's better but not correct. I did loosen all the bolts in the sheet metal and the cab and core support. I than looked at photos I took before I took the truck apart and it was miss aligned just the same as it is now. I feel like it's the hinges.

Moving the cab did help a little. Thanks

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

Got a lot done on the truck today, got the door glass in, front bumper on, vin plate on, carpet in, seat in and a few other little things. Then I started working on the bed. The bed I am using has a tool box but it it rusted in the bed side around the tool box. I decided to cut it all out and save it for my other truck and just patch the side. I got the patch in today also an did a lot of sanding. I hope to finish sanding tomorrow and get it primed.

Re: 69 C20 Daily Driver build

I have been super busy with work so not making much progress. Also the window regulator on my wifes truck broke and the ignition box went out on my Corvette both on Friday.
I did finish block sanding the bed today and got it painted.

Your a machine! Are you doing all this work by yourself? Awesome build thread, shows what determination can do.

Love the truck, looks like you have put a lot of time and money into it for it to be just a daily driver.
