Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

I had a retro sound head unit in my 1970 Deville and they work great! I'm gonna buy one for my truck now...Has all technology of a modern radio but still looks like an original unit.

Because whomever owned the truck previously, actually cared enough to take their time and do it right. Probably measured, traced, cut and filed or grinded the edges.

Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

I installed an after market radio that fit into original dash hole, however now I'm dealing with a battery drain issue. I'm trying to figure how to cure that. Minus disconnecting the radio ever time I park it for a week at a time.

Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

I bought this NOS RCA AM-FM 8 track radio - since then I bought a factory AM-FM and also factory GM 8 tract.

You can find these radios on eBay ...

Just a thought

But I never measured the radio opening so I need to check that out.

Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

Because of this thread I bought a retro sound stereo for my 59 Apache . The previous owner had an under dash unit installed , I dont do things that way. I am impressed with the retro sound unit , it works great . It is more complicated to install , and cost more than a custom auto sound , but it works , I had continuing problems with custom auto sound

Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

I have owned 2 different trucks with custom auto sound. both of them had problems with the controls not working properly and sounded cheap. ihave read lots of complaints about their radios and you would think they would get the message and do something to improve them.

One would think they would fix the problems, they arent concerned w/customer service.

I just ordered a Retro Sound Radio- Hermosa (it has bluetooth, but no satellite hook up; which I didnt need)

Re: Best aftermarket am/fm radio?

I've had 3 radios converted by Gary Tayman so far

Happy with every one of them, definitely recommend. Always been a quick turn around and he sends you a $20 off coupon back with your radio. I just got the radio back for my 72 gmc a few weeks ago. I doubt im going to use the coupon for another conversion before it expires, so if someone is considering using him I could send you the coupon
