Hi l92Powered77,
I put a 2011 5.3/6L80 in my 86 but I used the original cross-member but had to modify it. My tranny oil pan hangs low and I am curious how yours turned/turns out, any progress? If all goes well I will order the same one you got. Here is my quick build thread.

Talking Re: 1977 c10 6.2 L92/6l80e swap.. pics

..... UPDATE ...

---Ok hey guys how goes it to all hope all is well.

Really interesting things happening in my garage. So i measured for driveshaft and i came to realization that i have the dreaded triangle like piece output shaft from a camaro ss and other rear independant suspension vehicles;which my c10 obviously will not have independant rear suspension meaning nobody could warranty a driveline they could make for me because i would encounter infinite vibration and eventually destroy the driveshaft. hahaahhaa i said very funny big learning curve but yes i was hurting inside and my pockets felt lighter at these very moments .

.. So i now knew what i had to do and no i was not gonna be the one yelling sell it too much trouble, so i have spoken to a place in murrieta,ca called Cunningham Motorsports who are sponsors on ls1tech;i spoke to these guys a long time ago before i even had my engine or was even realistically in planing stages of ls swap.I spoke to them over phone and went to their shop one day and saw them and heard them dyno tuning Z06 corvettes and ctsv's and that afternoon i kicked into high gear and started researching everything.Of course hearing those vehicles being dyno tuned in my presence had alot to do with this.So i remembered they had recommended TOY SHOP TRANSMISSIONS in Pomona,ca as being the best place to get a tranny worked on.Since i got a fresh rebuilt 6l80e from a current chevrolet employee i never worried about calling the toy shop but when i started inquiring about changing my tailshaft to a normal slip yoke style NOBODY absolutely NOBODY in the MODESTO to Bakersfield area even wanted to touch my tranny and had never heard of what i wanted to do and all thought i was crazy for thinking it was a ""cakewalk"" to put a escalade drivetrain in my 77 c10 hahahaha so yeah really interesting turn of event i guess it was a good surprise because at least the postive side was that no incompetent people molested my tranny and tinkered with my yoke area.So i indeed called the TOY SHOP and as i was going through 1 minute explanation of what i had and what i problem i needed and what i wanted done i was interupted by KENDALL the awesome employee at toy shop and immediately told me yeah sorry to interupt but we do that quite frequently and went into all the details about the job and parts and time frame and all that.500 he said i decided ok fine because i was not gonna go source another tranny because A i had a fresh internals 6l80e and it wasnt garanteed i could sell and buy a decent tranny to actually let me sleep peacefully at night and B my psi conversion harness i had ordered and already installed in my truck was specifically made for my aplication of 2008 L92 engine with a 6l80e tranny so i was not gonna return and modify a harness and downtime and shipping to new jersey back and forth from california .

So yeah i took it to Toy Shop and it was ready in 2 days.Tranny is now back in my truck i am waiting for the 2 stock oem tranny mount bolts to bolt up tranny with xmember .I will be able to use the Tejas steel works crossmember but will have to take off the adaptor plate that scoty so kindfully made for me after so much stressing about and measuring. So now i bought a t400 yoke that slip right into my new tail end . I got tranny dipstick mounted as well as engine dipstick dipstick both from lokar, since my drive train came with no dipsticks and had to purchase as a matter of need.

I expect to be measuring for driveshaft this weekend and for efan relays to be mounted . I am waiting for a cooling line fitting that had AN fittings on the base plate oem style where the cooling lines come out of tranny. Also need to figure out the power steering lines situation.all hosing should be on engine this weekend all fluids should be going in as well.

1.I need to order gauges i was gonna go dakota digital because the autometer ones and all sensors are very enpensive i believe over 1200!!! and dakota digital is 700 so yes big difference .I am contacting Colorado Speed tomorrow and asking about gauge prices as i was told they have cheap gauges.Does anyone know where i can get auto meter style gauges electrical style for under 1000? Hopefully a vendor here or a shop owner can cut a c10 fanatic a deal. Just in case probaly going dakota digital .

2. I removed seats and carpet and terrible foam sound deadending material and was surprised by rust in feet area driver side being worse than pasanger so i got wire wheel and acetone and went crazy on the floor area by cleaning and rust removal and i got rustoleum rust primer and right now just barely finished primering the whole floor area of truck.Once it dries i think maybe i will add again in more damaged areas and i have a qt here of rustoleum protective enamel in flat black and was gonna make floor all black so i can then put my dynamat extreme and really get heat and sound relief inside vehicle. I was curious about spraying the rubber underbody spray on the floor instead of just painting black but what do you guys think?? I am leaning towards just painting black and have nice surface for dynamat to be placed on instead of putting it on the rubber like material that is the underbody spray. I have a new dashboard from classic industries i will install soon and new door panels all black.

.....LITTTLE BY LITTLE SLOWLY BUT SURELY ....She is coming along!

PICS TO FOLLOW.

feel free to ask any questions or give opinions whatever is appreciated .

Hey thanks for coming in Houston Ben. I had seen your build and wanted to ask you about the shift linkage. Why did you go with the shiftworks kk02 instead of the lokar linkage? Did you have to modify the kk02 in anyway for it to function? How is it holding up. To answer your question about the tranny pan i will say this,I am not woried about tranny pan clearance at all as the engine oil pan is the one that hangs the lowest. I am using the stock oil pan though so i expected this but it fit without any issues. Crossmember is legit especially so you can run the dual exhuast without any routing problems. Nice build Ben.

Update

I did a interesting thing.I ordered the lokar aca-1800 shift linkage piece because i was told that it fit . I ordered last night and i got the email that it shipped right now a few minutes ago. I decided to call lokar to ask them if it fit out of pure curiosity.I was told NO it does not fit my 6l80e .Bummer. I am now waiting for the summit piece to arrive which will be tomorrow.I will send piece back and get refund. On the birght side I was told by lokar that they are in a Research and Development phase of producing a 6l80e compatible shift linkage and "supposedly" that in the next month or two it might be released. This does not help me or solve my immediate problem..............

Meanwhile also between the few minutes ago and right now I decided to call a company in las vegas named SHIFTWORKS.Well the good people over there have a part number KK02 which is a shift linkage that was confirmed by the company itself that it does fit my 6L80E! This was ordered and thats that.

I don't remember why I bought the shiftworks one, I think I saw were someone else had used it so I contacted the company and they told me it would work with the 6l80 and I've had zero problems with it, very simple to install. edit: just saw that you ordered it, like I said, i have zero problems with it and easy to install.

How close is the top of your tranny to the floor hump and who exactly did you order the trans cross-member from? I would like to get a nice one before I get the exhaust redone.

I can move my hand around the top of my tranny with out too much strain i am waiting for tranny mount bolts ,when they get here i will be more precise. When i had a adaptor plate between the tranny mount and tranny i still had room and without all this stuff i assume i will have more room but either way my hump didnt neep to be modified at all or cut thank god. I am happy to have this 6l80e and cant wait to get it started and walkin on its own.I never knew the 5.3's came with 6l80e ,I am sure you are getting awesome gas mileage you lucked out.How do you like your swap so far. Thanks for Shift linkage info im not even stressing anymore.Btw what did you do for the power steering line? What acessory brackets did you use ? My only issue now is power steering lines but not really worried the war is won pretty much just a few more battles to go...

Crossmember-wise you are in luck. The company is run by fellow Texans and the name of the shop is called Tejas Steelworks being located at Pflugerville,Texas which is the Austin area. The guy you need to speak to is Scotty, his phone number is 512 470-0153 . The shops page is https://www.facebook.com/TejasSteelWorks . Even if you need a custom fabrication they can help .They make the crossmember and its made there in shop.

Re: 1977 c10 6.2 L92/6l80e swap.. pics

I didn't put the engine in myself (the only thing I didn't do myself), I didn't have the equipment or space to do so. But the guy some how used the stock power steering lines. I can get some pictures for you if you want.

I think I need to raise my tranny a little, I will have to feel around and see if I can.

MPG wise I see around 18 highway which is less than I thought I was going to get but I do have it tuned to run like a mad man so.... I really like the swap and am glad I did it, just make sure whoever tunes your 6l80 knows what they are doing. I guess it is a different animal than the 4l80.

Thanks for the info on the crossmember, I will look them up.

One other thing, watch where you put your mufflers, I have 40 series flowmasters right behind the cab under the bed with no "X" or "H" pipe and they are loud as heck in the cab with drone effect... I hate it, makes any trip over an hour painful.

Hey if you could get some pictures of power steering line area that would be great.Who tuned your truck? You Houston guys are lucky to have alot of support. I know Flaco and Wheatley. Flaco builds some crazy trucks. I used to have a 08 5.3 Yukon with a tune from Spike Peformance in the mcallen area and holy crap my stock truck turned into a beast.Spike builds some fast trucks as well.
Im over the Flowmasters i had 40 series dumped when i had my cammed 350 carbbed and hated the drone. That is why now only Magnaflow or Dynomax Ultra Flo . I like to be able to talk and think in my vehicle sometimes but yes at wot i wanna hear the . You think a x or h pipe will calm down a exhaust?

Gasket for tranny cooling line piece. And the original lines themselves. I ordered a piece that instead of steel hoses coming out like stock it has AN fitting size 6 AN already welded on!!! this piece i was trying to see how i was gonna make but i found a site called www.bowlertransmissions.com. The part number is bpt-6l80mb-00 it costs 65. Convenience price.

My stock lines worked as well. Bolted right up. Since my engine sits back farther than yours, I had to bend the return low pressure line forward about 1/2" or so to clear the FRONT of the power steering pulley. That's how much farther rearward my engine is sitting.

Hey 77, not the bet pics but there is too much crap in the way for straight shots. But here are my power steering lines.

I used my original trans lines and then used hose and clamps on the lines to AN fittings at the cooler.

Also, from what I have read and heard the X-pipe of H pipe will give you a little more hp or tq and help with the drone sounds.

Hey Ben right on thanks for the pics this giving me ideas being able to see things big thanks .. Everything from the 5.3 fit in the engine compartment without having to cut frame ?? I have to use a 90-95 silverado power steering pump due to the fact I am using the dirty dingo high mount power steering bracket. More work being hammered out today this afternoon ,will update later with more pics.
