Re: Intro and my 1961 ap 10 project.

The simplest way to mod that 235 would be dual single barrels and fenton headers with a nice hei and a T5 tranny behind the 235. That alone will make for a nice cruiser...won't do 4th gear burnouts. But will be a nice reliable engine that will last you a loooong time if you take care of it.

Next step would be porting the head and putting in bigger valves with more cam and again the dual or triple single barrels and headers.

The Ultimate thing to do would be to buy a 250 and turbo charge it. Course...8 pounds of boost ain't gonna hurt that 235 either if you don't scream it. But 250's are really cheap to mod for power. Know a guy who did a 250 that makes 310 hp and 285 torque Naturally aspirated...that 6 banger is a 6k engine to. lol You have alot more options then you may know with these. But the real question is....Do YOU really want to do a mod build on the 6 banger? Or are you just wanting to do the cheap boring 350 crate engine? If you want to mod the 6 I have some guys who race these that you can call. I'd also recommend getting this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-Truck-...73f75b&vxp=mtr

I'm not really looking for power. I'm looking for a good reliable cruiser where I can cruise 500-2k miles at low RPMS. As I'm aware, The 3 speed trans won't be a good cruiser on highways and I hear that a 235 with a 3 speed set up are prone to overheating on long cruises. Of course I would love to have some power but that's why I have my Camaro. I'm going LS on it very soon and since I have a 350 zz4 crate engine in there I have a choice to sell it or swap it into the Apache. So basically my Apache will be for looks and a 2-3 day driver for work and back. Oh and I plan to get some vintage air in there as well.

Re: Intro and my 1961 ap 10 project.

Progress has been slow but still moving along. Here are a few goodies I collected through these last couple of months. The best find was the custom cab moldings/trim "sails" . Even though these are the aluminum sails , they're still in good condition. It was also a complete set including the rear lower window trim. I've read that it's a very rare piece. What's your guys opinion on these trims? what's the value of this set? I want to see if I got a good deal. I got the set for $150

the sail panels you got are 64-66. the center trim might be the 60-61...
here are some pics of the 60-61, and then the 62-63 end pieces, also notice they are stainless instead of aluminum...

regardless 150 is still probably a good deal for all 3 pieces, especially if the center piece is actually a correct 60-61 center

***the center trim might be 60 only... I can't remember if it was available for the 61...

Yes I believe you're right. I was aware of the correct year of these sails but they are hard to come across I decided to get them. Stainless steel would have been better. The center piece does seem to be for early 60s. Overall thank you for the info sir

Re: Intro and my 1961 ap 10 project.

I did the same thing, we wanted custom sails on my wifes 63, and all I could find at the time was the 64-6. I don't mind how they look.

you might try the center with those anyway other than it being in the line of fire (loading the box) I wish gm had kept it on all the years.

Re: Intro and my 1961 ap 10 project.

Welcome and I would keep that Six in there. I'm waiting to receive my 2 carb manifold from Speedway for my 230. As far as cruising you could always change the rear gears for better highway performance.
