Re: 1959 Chevy Truck Windshield Wiper Help

That is a really cool motor - is there a chance of gettin it to work ? or is it too far gone?
i think it would clean up pretty well ;
things like this i love to work on and try to rebuld - make it work again and shine up them linkages - first time i have seen this type with 2 switches .
hope you get it to function.

.
little update did put the effort in making this wiper a go'r
my main problem was the on/off two speed switch was dead inside
took it apart cleaned it reassembled and glued it back together with JB weld
.
the transmission arms were rusted stuck IE motor stuck made smoke come out of
park switch and motor bushes nothing was damage beyond repair
but while removing the transmission arm I broke one of the park switch cam washers
ear off
repaired with JB weld
.
and now understand why two switches to work it Because the contacts on the park relay were worn and dirty and dirty motor contact
(live in the North Wet) the whole system got used and abused
the extra on/off switch was installed when wiper didnot want to park as designed
.
here are some pictures
.

.
the arms are marked L/R
.

.
used wires to hold com, brushes in to re intall motor
.

.
this is why I don't have nice things
.

Mine '59 has a 2-speed wiper with a single 3-pole switch.
I plan to add a powered washer to it.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck Windshield Wiper Help

I bought a firewall out of a 58 AZ government truck, and it had the single switch.
I sold most of the stuff I didn't need, and don't remember two switches.

Re: 1959 Chevy Truck Windshield Wiper Help

FYI, that switch with the two terminals (on and off switch) works as a ground. took me awhile to figure that out. 12V goes directly to motor.

I have factory 2 spd wipers on my 59, and an extra motor also. most people don't know but they work on a ground switch. the hot goes directly to the wire panel on the motor itself (it took me forever to find that out). As far as I could find out there are no replacement switches made due to it being a switched ground to make it work. hope this helps, Doyle. (dew468)

my 59 Apache only has 1 switch and it has 2 blade connecters and a ground from the switch base to the motor. they may have changed during mid 58 like the other things they changed. who knows. mine work and i'm a happy camper.
