Re: One mixed up 51'

Got the back started on the weekend. Just got the first of two new crossmembers tacked it but it's started non the less.

So one more up a foot or so and some connecting beams between them and I can mock up the back part of the subframe.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Ran out of wire again as I was welding up the crossmember. Desided to do some parts cleaning after that and got quite a pleasant surprise.

I washed the IRS finally then did a quick once over with a wire wheel.

Now I knew the upper A arms were aluminum but had no idea they would buff up like that!

Re: One mixed up 51'

Got the IRS starting its way into the back this weekend. Had to put that 1 more crossmember in, then made some brackets to bolt to the subframe and lifted it in, centred, levelled and tacked the back ones up.

It turns out I could have had the crossmembers a bit lower but it still works good. I have 2 more cross peace's to go between the crossmembers that will join up with the mounting brakets, then a few gussets for extra measure.

Now into the front mounts!

This peace is still up for debate, still not sure if it looks t bulky? It will work for sure as there will be another on the inside of the frame and then boxed. It won't really be seen so im 90% sold. Feel free to give me ideas for these, nothing to complicated I only have steel plate to work with.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Looking good. You could cut a triangle out of the inside to get rid of the bulky look and still keep the strength.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Thanks, I've thought of that but cuz I'm boxing it water would end up collecting in there. Could put drain holes I guess.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Got some more done today. Cut out the mounts and put together the back half, cut out the bit of frame in between for needed clearence. Turns out I had to move it up another 4.5"

Solved the bulky looking peace problem I had tho cuz it's much smaller now.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Very cool build!! I love mixing vehicles. My 67 Jeep is made up of 14 different vehicles and works great. My 52 GMC is made up of 3 vehicles and so far is working good. Keep up the good work

Re: One mixed up 51'

Got the mounts all tacked in yesterday and dropped the IRS back out to weld and pretty it all up.

Once that's all together I'll line everything up perfect and weld the nuts in there final spots.
Should be done that pretty quick I hope

Re: One mixed up 51'

Thanks, got a bit more done. So more pics!

Welded up the mounts and checked it all up. Got my first crack at mocking up some strut towers.

Ok for a first attemp I think. Got more adjustments for sure tho.

Feels good to see all the new suspension hanging off the frame finally

Re: One mixed up 51'

Thanks, can't wait to get past the chassis tho. After mocking up that first tower I realize what little truck bed I will have lol, not that I thought I was gonna get much. Only things going in the back will be stuff from ikea and track and car show supplies so I think I'm good.

Re: One mixed up 51'

If I wasn't building it to autocross I would. I'm building the towers in order to utilize the massive supra aftermarket suspension options. There's lots and they are cheap.

I think my next project I'll try bags

Re: One mixed up 51'

I did look into bags for what I'm gonna do. Would love to have a switch for ride height but those systems are not cheap
But like I said, next build.
I really want to do a cab over

Re: One mixed up 51'

So I did some cutting and tacking today.
Here is what I got done so far.

Everything is going good, all level and lined up
After more research I figured out my front strut hieghts and DAMN they are tall.
But I realize that in the supra the are pretty much equal with the top of the motor so they are just tall.
Gonna have to get more steel for those so I'm just focused on the rear for now.

Re: One mixed up 51'

Did a little more today.

Trimmed the little extra off the sides of the top, layed a few more beads to keep it all together better and drilled out the top on one side to mount up the strut. Just gotta do the other sides holes and it will be time drop the IRS out again to weld everything up.
