Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

AC Delco filters and Castrol 5W-30 in my 2005 GMC Sierra. It now has 272,XXX miles on it and still going strong ! Previous truck was a 1995 GMC, ran the same oil and filter, when I gave it to my oldest son it had 365,XXX miles on it, the one before that was a 1984 Chevy Scottsdale C10, it had 280,XXX miles on it, cant remember what type of oil and filters I used back then though.
Can you see were I'm going with this ??? Regular old motor oil and regular changes is were its at ! Every 3000 miles and the motors will last a long time.

I run Mobile-1 in my fleet of work trucks (small fleet,, only 4) until they hit 150,000 then run Castrol GTX until they die (which has not happened yet @ 225,000)

Nothing but Wix or Napa gold (also wix) filters,, EVER on anything I own

Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

Mechanic buddy of mine has a 2500 Suburban with a 6.0. He told me he was getting some lifter noise at cold idle (150,000 miles). He said he changed to Castrol syntec 10W30 and a quart of Lucas. No more noises and operates just like it should (now has over 200,000). I made the same swap in my 99 2500 with the 6.0 and got the same results. WIX filters!!!

Been using them for years. Never had a problem.

Have you checked the mounting surface to make sure there isn't a crack or imperfection on the block?

I run Ams Oil Full Synthetic oil with the Ams Oil Ea0 oil filters in all my toys. If I can't find the Ea0 filter I run wix.

Smile Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

My 2007 Suburban with aluminum 5.3 used 2-3 litres of oil from 42,000km to 190,000km
I work in a diesel repair shop and see 700-900,000 km on Duramax and Cummins... I asked "how come"?
My boss says 15W40 Shell and a fuel filter eveytime..

I switched my Burb to reg 5W30 Dyno oil and always use Wix filters
I am not kidding, the Burb at 235,000km now uses 1/2 liter per 5000km now Never was a ticker

We just bought a 2006 5.3 L33 Z71 cab 1/2 from wind generator construction company 451,000km on it it been ticking a left side lifter for 2 weeks Dropped the oil today and added 15 W40 Shell and no more noise

Just saying

I never had the problem on any of my vehicles until i switched to the wix.It could be that I may not be getting them tight enough. That is one good thing about the fram is the grip they put on the filter.

I only have 80K on my 2006 WT 4wd 4.8 engine but I use what NAPA has on sale 5-30 non-synthetic and always an AC Delco filter. I change oil every 5000 miles.

fram is perfect way to ruin an engine open one up and you'dd see why.

I run castrol high mileage or kendal high mileage 5w30 , either a puratolor, carquest or napa gold filter

Valvoline 5w30 High Mileage usually with a Napa Gold but have run an AC Delco from time to time in a pinch.

Wallmart is by far the cheapest place to buy the Valvoline High Mileage by nearly $10 sometimes for a 5 quart jug.

Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

Almost 205k on my '95 I have always used 10-30 high mileage synthetic blend every 3k miles or so with a WIX filter. Little lifter noise and a tired old 5.7 burns some oil and leaks a bit but still runs good when it needs to get used.

The Mobil 1 filter is quite tall compared to most. I prefer that one over all others.

Basic valvoline oil or high mileage version (factory weight recommendations)with usually a fram high mileage filter. Change every $5k miles. Many don't like Fram, but I have never had a problem....

Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

A final note about filters used on my 2001 Silverado 5.3 litters Vortex motor: I bought a NAPA oil filter and then realized how short this filter is compared to a Mobil 1 filter, so I didn't use it and saved it as a backup filter in case I have to use it someday. Tall filters like the Mobil 1 and a couple of others are much easier to install and remove, because sometimes you can just grab it with your hands and spin it few turns. With a short filter, most times I have to use a wrench to remove or install it.

What is the part number for the taller Mobil 1 filter?

Re: What oil and oil filter are you high mileage guys using

5W30 Synthetic with WIX or NAPA Gold filters.
Stay away from the oiled cotton air filters... Change the air filter at least every 20K with the Stock K47 (hi capacity) AC Delco A1618C paper element. It has deeper pleats than the standard cap filters and it fits in the standard capacity air filter box.
