Re: So how long do you hang onto them??

I've had a list of old trucks since I got my first one in '75. Somehow I keep coming back to Chevy's '54 year model. I've had a 3 window, a 5 window and now a panel. Kept them all various times, usually until I got tired of working on them. Then I just went out and bought a different set of problems.

Sad to say, the old truck I've kept the longest is my '61 F100 shop truck. I've had that thing like 12 years. I alternate between working on it and trying to sell it. Currently I'm in a working on it stage.

Re: So how long do you hang onto them??

It's a personal question. I have had my 57 burb for 33 years, daily driver for the first ten years. Driveway decoration for the last 23.....
This is like asking how long do you keep your wife, job, or house. Everyone has a different answer, and none of them matter because they aren't you.

Once I've got a vehicle set up to match my needs, I'll run it till it rusts into the ground. *which happens distressingly quick in the northeast*

I don't enjoy the build process. I'd much rather be using the end result. So the endless cycle of building and selling would be hell to me. I'll go through it to get to the end goal of having it set up how I want it, but then I leave it alone, and just have fun using the finished vehicle.

Hey Ranch truck...

I never thought about that before...I have gone through since 2007 I bet five maybe six projects...a couple of race cars thrown into the mix too....my head never stops spinning....chaos seems to be my constant companion....

Re: So how long do you hang onto them??

It's funny that this post came up. I had a conversion about this very topic with my buddies over the weekend. I could see a scenario where I sell my 48 and take a portion of the $ for the boys college fund then take the rest and through it at my 53 Suburban. For me there is a real enjoyment that comes from building them.

Marc

Re: So how long do you hang onto them??

That is a good idea Marc if it works for you. Once we sold the toys (55 Chevy and 69 Corvette) to help buy our farm. That was the first time since I was 15 years old I didn't have a cool project to work on or to cruise in. Didn't like that one bit.

Of course in a year or so I solved that problem.

So how long do you folks keep your trucks once you get them up and running????

Any insight would be great...

MikeC

Got mine as a 14 birthday present. Plan was to drop in a motor and be my car when I turned 16. We got carried away, didn't drive the car till I was roughly 20...now 33 and this is the one car I'll probably never get rid of.

Re: So how long do you hang onto them??

Never sold one yet, still have my first car/build got when I was 15, now almost 33. It's never really done, I get a rush every time I hear it and light the tires up.
