Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
So the hydramatic was only behind the v 6
The powerglide was only in chevys until 63, and then in gmc's but still not behind the v6 There are 2 different widths, one for lwb and one for swb. Thers is a straight type and dropped down type possibly for high or low hump cabs. Did sombody over at ford design this ? |

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
I did look a little further and it does state that the V6 was the eng used, but there was a 248,270 and a 392 cu in I6 US production eng as per this link
http://home.znet.com/c1937/Cast.htm I am curious a to if the P series had the x member and if it could have used a p/glide in the lighter models/ Canadian production GMC did use the p/glide in those years bhind the 235/261 engs ron |

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
Reading from the 1960 GMC Data book , yes a 270A they call it, was available in the "1001 Junior Van RPO" and it states for transmission SM-318 three speed" with no option of anything else. No listing for any larger vans except the cowl/body . All GMCs 1000-5000 were 305 v6 base engines till 4000 was optional with 351 . No mention in the transmission section of what models came with what. Maybe later 61 or 62 had different in-line 6s ? Don't know. Last mention of auto trans is 2500 series. No mention at all on powerglide in the transmission section , just 4 different models of turbo-glide.
Canada ?? I have no idea or have no info on. Anyone have 1961 1962 and later GMC Data books they would part with ?? Looking for more.

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
Going to through this out there for what its worth. 6 parts books later , the part number shows up in the 1960 parts book, C10 115 WB 3768509 , then parts history change in 1961 to 3787122 , that number is listed then as the replacement for 1960 and correct number for 1961-1962. Same for 1960 part # 3768510 Series 10 and 20 127 WB changed to 3787123 for now 1960-1962.
Can only guess one drop is early 1960 and the other 1961-1962 unless theres a part number stamped in one which I doubt ? No listing at all specifically for Van, but theres an interesting note for 3787122 1960-1962 W/102 and W/115 WB ?? What is 102 wheel base ? Chevy Van ? More digging ! Also none of these part numbers show up in GMC books , Just Chevrolet USA books.

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
Powerglide was in GMCs 1963-1966 behind the V6 with an adapter .

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
1960chevypanel, Thanks for posting the dimensions.
Here is a crossmember that came out of a Buick. Pretty close and I thought It would fit my 61 Burb. I still have not mocked it up between the frame but it did look like it might fit. Seems a bit shorter on the top length. Here is the info on it's application if anyone is interested. "This is a used transmission cross member out of a 1964 Buick Wildcat. This cross member is in great good condition. This car had the ST400 transmission in it. This will also fit a 1964 Buick LeSabre and Electra 225."

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
those were the aluminum p/glides and were called "at-218 pow0r-flow which was the GMC word for p/glide
60-62 would be the cast iron p/glide. that 102" wb may have been a mail type delivery truck and may have utilized a small I6. in 63 they came out with the 194 cu in eng. it is amazing how much GMC info is missing ron |

Re: 60-62 V-8 auto crossmember
Dug out a long bed auto cross member, I never noticed it has a drop also. It's from a 1961. Here are some pics comparing it to the short bed drop member:
