Like captn fab says keep it up man. For being 17 that's dang impressive. Took me years to even be remotely good at tig. The world needs more Welders. Primarily in TIG. Subscribed also

Thanks everyone! Made a little progress, got the rear suspension mostly finished except for the panhard bar, and built the tranny crossmember. Working on the fuel cell now.

Re: 1964 Sleeper | 5.3 | 75mm turbo | Caged | 4 Link

Been lacking on updates but have been working on it as much as possible. Finally got some primer on the cab tonight after a few weeks of battling the crazy amount of rust this truck had.

Back to where I left off, The finished fuel cell

Im trying make as much as possible on this truck to save some money so I made some motor mounts from left over cromo from the 4 link,

Motor went in with no issues

Then the not so fun bit began.

Material for the roll cage showed up today so I will start on that tomorrow.

Re: 1964 Sleeper | 5.3 | 75mm turbo | Caged | 4 Link

I decided on just a roll bar instead of a full cage since it will primarily be driven on the street. Made some progress on the main hoop and mounting plates.

There will be a tube that mounts to the frame and bolts to the plates.

This was my first time bending tube so I'm pretty happy with the results. Tubing is 1-3/4x .120 wall DOM

Like many others have said, you have some great skills for a 17 year old. Glad to see another teen doing his own thing to these old trucks!

Re: 1964 Sleeper | 5.3 | 75mm turbo | Caged | 4 Link

Thanks everyone! finished up the roll bar a few days ago so I put the cab back, now I can fab up the pieces the attach the roll bar to the frame.

Notching was done with a regular drill press and hole saw.

Wasn't really going for nhra legality on this roll bar but rather something to add some safety for the occasional days at the track without making it more dangerous to drive on the street.

Awe come on! You're just teasing us now with those close-ups of the tube welds. Lol!

I'm just kidding, I look forward to seeing more. (so jealous!)

Re: 1964 Sleeper | 5.3 | 75mm turbo | Caged | 4 Link

Started work on the headers, got the drivers side tacked up. Now to make a mirror image for the passenger side. They are made of sch10 304L stainless. Thicker than most are used to for headers, but will handle the abuse and heat over time, and was way cheaper than thin wall mandrel bends. Also thinking of selling this set to fund the build if anyone is interested in some turbo headers..

Welded inside and out then ported
