Definitely some cracks on the steering wheel, not as bad as some that I have seen, but at least the horn ring isn't cracked or broken. Windshield doesnt have a chip on it though! All you are seeing there is some spotting from either sap or pollen (it sat under a tree for quite some time)

Floor mat cleaned up quite nicely. No tears, the underside of the seat looks nice too...

Re: 1966 custom camper & alaskan camper survivor

Love these little propane tanks. They are under the bed, on both sides of the truck. They're outside of the frame rails, and in between the rear of the cab and the back tires.

The exhaust looks to me to be completely original as well. All of the exhaust piping from the manifold to the tail pipe looks the same, rusty.

Wow. I've never wanted a truck so bad on this site EVER.

What a gorgeous piece of bowtie history.

Re: 1966 custom camper & alaskan camper survivor

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I appreciate all the feedback. Hope these all these pics aren't too annoying to those not interested, but figured more is better than less.

I'm seeing a lot of this white material all around the edges, corners and creases of the truck. Not sure what it is or if others have come across something similar in the past. It rubs off very easily and a search through the forum hasn't shown anything. Not a huge deal either way, a curiosity more than anything.

BTW, does anyone know who makes a good quality windshield gasket for these trucks? Mine is beyond cracked and split, and I don't want moisture getting in and corroding the pillars and cowl areas.

It's YOUR thread about YOUR truck. The only people looking are those that ARE interested. The rule around here has ALWAYS been MORE PICS is best.

It's probably old-school wax (like Turtle Wax) or rubbing compund. My low mile '66 was covered with it the same exact way. Every crack or gap was white. Loosen it up with a spray bottle of mineral spirits and a soft paint brush, wipe with a rag.

It's important to get the right brand of windshield gasket. I hear horror stories of fighting with the bargain brands, so stick with a good one like PRECISION brand.

Winston, are you looking for pics of orig wire routing, or are you asking to see the date code on the wires? I agree, orig date coded wires may help tip the balance a bit toward 12k rather than 112k. Fun stuff.

The floor mat pics are great. Pedals look pretty darned fresh. 112K miles with a four speed trans usually pruduces worn pedal pads and a heel hole in the floor mat ...unless of course another mat was used on top.

Thanks for this oem4me. I have never received a disparaging remark from anyone here on this forum, and its always nice to get some added encouragement.

I think you are right about the white stuff just being old waxing compound. I should have thought about that as well.

I had intended to get pics of both of these today and completely forgot about it. I will be sure to add pictures tomorrow morning. Anywhere I need to look in particular to find the numbers on the plugs and cap?

Thanks man! I feel lucky. And to think that I almost passed on the truck at first (last thing I need is another truck). I'm glad I took a risk and went for it.

the wires have a set of numbers and a letter like 651Q, 1965 1st quarter of the year. the cap will have letters and a numbers on the wings that you twist to take it off like RC6 13# should be on one and AC on the other...

I was just wondering if you took the "chevrolet" badge off the glovebox door, and if so why? I thought I saw it on there in one of your pics but now it's missing.

Re: 1966 custom camper & alaskan camper survivor

Man, work has been pretty busy today. I haven't had much time to go out and take some pictures of the spark plugs, plug wires and cab. It might have to wait until this evening.

About the Chevrolet emblem on the glove box, it had fallen off sometime in the past. It is inside the glove box. There are three prongs that are on the back of the emblem that push into the glove box door. Two have broken off, and the adhesive that helps keep it in place has long since deteriorated.

I notice something new every time I look at this thread.

What does the spare tire and wheel look like? And what is that cord on the left side that goes from what looks like an AC outlet on the camper to what looks like an antenna mount on the cab?

So if you look at the pic of the tailpipe, you will see in the background the spare there inside the spare tire mount. The tire and rim that's there now use to be the rear passenger tire that was flat. All tires and rims are the same though.

The spare tire mount is pretty cool. It mounts to the frame as most of the rear bumper brackets do, but extends out far enough to clear the tailgate when it's in the down position (the camper being a 10 footer, requiring the additional 2 ft). The outside of the bumper brackets have a tubular rod on either side that run parallel to the ground. All you have to do is pull out on the bumper like a dresser drawer and it slides out along those tubular rods, extending past the tailgate in the down position (flawless dent-free tailgate btw) and allowing full access to the spare.

Really slick design and extremely convenient. I'll get pics of that tomorrow too.
