Re: Eaton HO-52, Need a little advice
If you have a trailer like this with no gears but good bearings and seals, turning the cover upside down is a good idea, you can get just enough gear lube in there to always keep lube on the bearings. I've done it and it works good.

Yes, I've been fortunate all mine have had good bearings and seals so far. 2 of these are Dana 60's though.

Re: Eaton HO-52, Need a little advice
It took longer than planned, but I finally got everything put together.
I used new seals, repacked the bearings, and made my own gaskets with some "Right Stuff". I let the gaskets dry for 24 hours before adding any gear oil. With the 3rd member and axles out and the cover installed purposely upside down, it took almost 9 quarts of gear oil! Not one drop so far. The vent was totally missing, so I drilled out a little check valve I found at the parts store and fabricated my own vent. Last thing I did was replace the shocks that were completely worthless. Luckily I had some good stock style ones I saved from before my truck was lowered. I really appreciate all the advice I got from everybody here. I am really a hands on kind of learner, so I can read it a hundred times, but until I do it for the first time I feel lost. It was a good experience digging into this. Now it's time to use the trailer for what I wanted it for and plan some dirt bike trips with the fam-jam!

Re: Eaton HO-52, Need a little advice
Took the trailer on a 300 mile round trip dirt bike trip with the boy. Not one problem, barely noticed I was pulling it behind me!
Had a blast and can't wait to do it again. Really nice to have all that extra space.

Re: Eaton HO-52, Need a little advice
That's very good to hear. Time with the kids is priceless. Having a cool trailer definitely doesn't hurt.
