I will pick up a NSS, solder and extend the wires so they hook up, if it will eliminate the need for me to hit a toggle switch when I put it in reverse. Mostly because it's easier to forget to turn it off after I'm done backing up lol.

BTW, New Jersey has eased up dramatically on their inspection guidelines. Now they just check emissions, which I would most likely fail. If I register it as historic, which I can and soon will because it's older than 25 years, it's exempt from inspection.
It's been more than 20 years since I had anything to do with NJ or PA inspections...

Better to not to attract the notice of the NJ police by leaving the backup lamps on tho. Getting the rats nest back to something reasonable is a good thing too. Nothing like having the radio take out your backup lights...

I happen to know a cop who is also the greatest guy in the world

Seriously though, the backup lights work, but I do want to clean the whole mess up, especially since I will be wiring a pretty kickass stereo after I get all this stuff squared away, and my cab mounts finished but that's an entirely different nightmare. I don't have a problem with wiring, I actually kind of enjoy the challenge it can present, but I also know firsthand the headaches and frustration it can cause. Time to get busy with a wiring diagram!

My stepfather was a NH State Trooper. It's always better not to make it look like you're taking advantage... Just in case you really need help sometime.

Ok, so i got my motor out and figured I'd tackle any wiring issues I might have had. First I wanted to remove the MSD Digital 6 Plus box that was not hooked up. I removed all the wiring, which was run through a hole that I believe was drilled out by the PO. Then I was left with a couple of wires that I couldn't figure out. There was a yellow wire and a pink wire left running through the firewall.



Well...it turns out the yellow wire that was hooked up to the switch for the rear lights ran through the firewall up to the bulkhead connector and was hanging loose. I thought I had pulled it free from the connector when I removed my steering column. Turns out, after much head scratching and reading diagrams, there is no yellow wire that hooks up to the connector. What the PO did was splice the yellow wire into the light green #24 wire, which is for the backup lamps. Then he hooked up the pink wire to a powered source (junction block on firewall), ran it through the firewall, split it off into the white and purple wires (purple wire for the stereo), and grounded it.





The two wires coming through the firewall are the yellow wire (previously mentioned) and the pink wire. The pink wire hooks up to the junction block on the firewall, goes through the firewall and splits into the white wire which hooks up to the switch, and the purple wire which goes to the radio. I'm kind of proud of myself for figuring all that out considering my limited electrical experience.

Now I just need to get the backup lights wired correctly to the column. I still haven't bought the NSS.
