Re: drove 20 miles to work now won't turn over
Fit, yes. Same, no. Don't put a small block starter on a big block (or at least not one with any compression or timing) as they're weaker.

Re: drove 20 miles to work now won't turn over
Had an opportunity to drop the starter today, I think I might have found part of my problem. Pic is in reply #28 below
What is the wire harness that goes from the firewall block to the starter called if I wanted to replace it. ThE purple wire is the only one that is not cut but it is nicked near the connection at the firewall, the other 3 wires are just cut and laying in a wire loom, I have no idea where they are suppose to go, there is a pink a green and a tan.

Re: drove 20 miles to work now won't turn over
I do hope all the dissenters and OP send me flowers.
I wouldn't describe that one as the battery to starter, I'd call it ignition to solenoid.

Re: drove 20 miles to work now won't turn over
The harness that comes of the firewall and has all the wires for the ignition and starter is called the "engine wire harness".

Re: drove 20 miles to work now won't turn over
"Engine & Starter Wiring Harness" depending on who you ask, but it's a minor point.
Varies by engine and transmission, but M&H is my preferred manufacturer. Check board vendors first, they're here for a reason and are often cheaper. Here's an example, though this is manual trans: http://www.ecklerstrucks.com/chevy-t...1958-1959.html
