So I think I'm going to run a 5/16" steel line with inverted flares from the fuel pump to an adapter to change to AN -6, then into a swivel coupler and onto an Edelbrock fuel line/filter. I don't like to use that many joints, but I can't seem to find a fuel filter that uses 5/16" fuel line (inverted flare) on both sides. Most aftermarket filters are AN -6 or for rubber hoses. I'm trying to avoid the use of any rubber between the pump and carb.

I'm guessing the potential for "massive fire" is because if a hose leaks above the engine it could pool in the intake manifold and potentially be ignited by a spark inside the distributor cap. I've seen it happen. Luckily, the hood was open and we were able to put it out immediately.
The hose by the fuel pump would most likely leak away from the engine.

rubber line is b4the pump and not pressurized on the other hand you have it after the pump and know it alls like you are standing helplessly on the side of the road waitin for a firetruck to save their dumbasses

and your nice metal line can fatigue over time and snap at the fitting burning the truck to the ground. its rare, just like your truck burning from a rubber hose failing.
just spend $20 on a fire extinguisher that should already be in every vehicle you own and put what ever hose you want on your truck.

I use hardline on mine, easy to bend and easy to flare when you have a nice eastwood turret flaring tool like I have

I have never seen or heard of metal line fatigue and causing a fire but have seen hundreds of examples of lazyman rubber causeing the burn to the ground sceniero// a $20 fire exyinguisher is a clowns bet

I've seen several fires from metal lines snapping at the fitting, mostly on construction equipment, but also on a couple of passenger vehicles. I've seen at least 50 lines snap in the last 20 years on construction sites, its usually hydraulic lines but its still flammable.
many metals work harden and can snap at the fitting due to vibration.

the fuel leaks I've seen firsthand were mostly from a gasket, the clamp or fitting and not the fuel line itself.

The fuel pump moves with the engine,and carb so a solid line doesn't flex. If you have enough vibration to cause fatigue you have other problems. You will not find any factory installs using rubber lines under pressure. Even in the new pump in tank applications they use plastic lines where flex is needed.

how about them leaky lines on the space shuttles ya seen them too?

it shouldn't flex, that doesn't mean it doesn't flex. harmonics cause vibration too and that is usually the cause. I've seen it plenty of times, it can usually be cured by rearranging the clamps or hold downs.

i didn't get the chance to work on the shuttle any of the times I was at nasa, although a couple times when work I did work at the Sonny Carter training facility I was required to have an armed escort.

rubber lines or steel lines , Dirty Jim is right . You should all have a fire extinguisher behind the seat of all your classics. Fuel lines aren't the only cause of a fire . Electrical fires , gas fires , oil fires , keep an extinguisher on board.

Yeah, that 4-5 psi is gonna blow a hole right through my 250 psi hose.

I had the same line kit a few years back, my pump needed this 90 to adapt the pump to the line kit, your pump may be the same.
