Pretty cool ... if you're into short fleets, anyway.
It's a bit hard to explain the newer seat cover with such low miles. Hmmm.

Like I said the p.o. and his mother swear it has 17,000... it could be 117,000 either way the truck is still really cool. I should preface mileage with the disclaimer that I have no proof, other than their word, to support the mileage claim. Tell me what you know about the seat cover, I know nothing about these year trucks, Is it the wrong pattern that makes you think it's not original? The steering wheel is hardly worn too... The drivers arm rest and the floor mat are pretty worn but mostly dried out.

Yes, the current seat cover looks nice, but is simply not the factory upholstery. Several interior items can tell the tale of low miles and little abuse. In no particular order: Seat upholstery, floor mat, steering wheel paint and hub cracking, pedal wear, door panel paint/arm rest, and gas tank cover. Of course there are lots of other indicators, but these things can all be spotted at a glance.
No way to know what kind of care was given in the past, but the orig seats and floor mats were pretty stout. I personally have a truck with near 100K miles and the orig seat cover is still near perfect. Another 50K floor mat with NO noticeable wear. just sayin.
Really liking your shorty truck with the six and PG combo. Great score, low miles or not!
For reference, the seats pictured below are from a 65 Suburban. 64 and 65 shared the same patterns and fabric, so your seat would've looked just like these, but in a solid bench form.

Thanks for the great info, it will help me try and make heads or tails of the history of this truck. Unfortunately with the original owners lost to us I may not be able to put the whole picture together. I did take a picture of the steering wheel this morning, what do you think?

Re: Brought this home last night...

Nice find! Love the name you gave it just what the Dr. ordered for your condition.

I agree on the seat cover not being correct. From the engine bay pic you also have the HD cooling option for the radiator and a different air cleaner than my '65 had originally.

Since you said it had a repaint, I wonder if the interior got a repaint too at that time? It might explain the non-worn paint on the steering wheel and the area under the ignition switch. Could have gotten a cover done on the seat too at that time...

I believe you are correct, the interior was likely painted at the same time the exterior was painted, the ignition switch is a great indicator that I didn't think To look at. I'm going to comb the board to try and see more factory trucks and see if anything else matches or doesn't match up. did these trucks have a SPID sticker?

No SPIDs until '66. Look for a build sheet in seat back or seat bottom. Agreed, interior paint does appear suspect. Can't quite tell from the photos, but the passenger side kick panel vent appears like it might have some fawn overspray on it. These were black when new, and were installed after interior color was shot.
Any chance that seat cover was installed over the factory one close to when it was new? I never understood this thinking, but it was common enough back then.

I folded the seat forward and looked for just that this morning but when I pulled it I found a nice shiny black seat frame so I don't think the original cover is there. I'll investigate a little farther this evening. The pedal covers and the floor mat aren't worn but the mat is a little brittle. We'll see what I come up with...

Re: Brought this home last night...

Got the truck running today, shot a video of it idling. Also took it around the block and it runs real well. I was thinking I might do the PerTronix electronic ignition upgrade but I don't think it'll need it. The spark plugs were completely fuel fouled so I loaded up a new set. While they were out I did a compression test and all the cylinders were around 160#. After gapping and installing the plugs I pumped the gas pedal twice and it fired right up! It was smoking a little bit and while I was investigating it I found the oil level was 2" above the full mark, pretty sure that's the culprit so I'll lend a hand at keeping the mosquito population at bay. It doesn't stop real well so we're gonna have to work on that. The running, brake and turn signal lights don't work but I think it's just bulbs except for the instrument lights, there's no power for them at the fuse block so I'll have to run that down too. Over all I'm happy with the truck and today's progress.
