So I ended up snagging an all-original bed including the gate for $600 bucks! I had to drive to Portland from Tacoma to get it, but it was pretty worth it I think... fairly straight, needs some love but Im happy with it.
I will say, the larger wheel well opening of the longbed panels looks a little better, but thats just my opinion.

You posting how well the shortening went, gave me the confidence to dive in on mine. I picked up a couple longbeds some time back. I'm going with a 7' (medium) bed:

Hey vortec 71 great job on all the work you did. Question, you didn't remove the cab to shorted the frame? Would it have been easier to or is keeping the cab on easy enough to get in there and weld still?
