Well, its the first step in the instructions for installing the cross member. I believe it made mention it was needed for clearance of the rack and pinion. It doesn't seem like it would get in the way given the amount of space however I didn't really need all that extra metal hanging out up there either.

Finished mocking up the rear end and dropped in the motor. Gulp. Its forward. Way forward. Trying not to lose my cool but I'm not sure how I'm going to get it moved back. Let me know if you guys have any ideas. I will definitely be placing a call to Speedway in the morning.

Well I spoke with speedway but they weren't much help. I ended up cobbling a couple different kits together to come up with this.



This setup bought me nearly another 2" of clearance between the radiator and the water pump pulley.

Here they are installed.


And here's the extra space.


Also threw the cab back on and realized I only need a very small mod to the firewall to make space for the transmission.









Pretty excited with the progress so far. Just 3 weeks ago today I had a bare frame. The new radiator, hoses, shroud and fans should arrive this week as should the fuel tank, pump and lines. Hoping to have her up and running by the first of the year.

Anyone have suggestions on some block hugger headers?

Looks good and more roomy with the engine moved back. Farmer Sid just went through getting headers and he used Hooker headers. See post 416....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...632938&page=17

Iceburgh used Sanderson and had to trim just a bit of the right frame rail.

C6 exhaust manifolds don't work. I just tried them as I am researching that question too.

Great progress Tesone! Hooker cast manifolds work for me. What rad, fan and shroud did you order? My water pump snout is 3" from the rad core. The snout is up 8" from the bottom of the rad core. What are your measurements? It would be nice to know so I could compare to what I have. Cheers!

Thanks FarmerSid!

My measurements are 7.5" from the bottom of the rad core. Keep in mind that's from the top of the curve that's in the bottom of the core. The snout is 3.75" from the core.

I ordered the 3 row from champion with the aluminum shroud and 16" fan combo. I should be here in the next couple days so I'll be sure to post up some pics once i have it installed.

I went a head and ordered the Hooker cast iron manifolds as well. Hopefully the fit.

Santa arrived early today. Got my Tank, pump, sender, lines and fittings from Tanks Inc. My wife is just tickled to have parts strung all over the house . . .

Mustang tank? Wife must have spent some coin earlier to let you spend some $$ this close to Christmas. Ha! Looks like our motors are pretty much installed at the same height. With that, the pictures in my build thread should give you a good idea of how the Hookers will fit.

Yessir thats the mustang efi tank. Yeah I'm a pretty lucky guy. She lets me get away with quite a bit. Just took an hour and read your build thread. Your chassis is absolutely killer. After seeing something like that and the more I stare at mine I feel like it needs to be boxed. Now is the time to do it I guess. Scary thing is I've never welded before. Guess I'll need to get some scraps and start practicing.

My wife is pretty good about things too. Parts I get in go right down to the barn so the wife's eyes don't even see them. LOL! I would box the frame if I were you. Others may feel different. Need any help boxing, feel free to ask. My engine never came with the mechanical fan. Would you be able to get me the depth dimension? Cheers!

Nice! Gotta love that. BTW that "barn" is pretty dandy. Here's a pic of the stock fan.

Installed the Champion 3 row radiator, fan and Hooker headers today.

The radiator is the same width as the stock one so i didn't lose any space with it.



The headers fit well.





Looks like I need to make some space on the inner fenders for the upper control arms and mounts. Is the solution to just trim them up? Looks like I'll need to make some room for radiator hoses going into the water pump as well, or is there a different water pump to use? Anyone have any guidance?

I just irimmed the inners for control arm clearance on mine by setting the inner in place on top of the control arem, compensating for distance the inner would need to move back to the toe board, marking then trimming the inner.

There are several options for heater hoses depending on what you are going to use for a heater. If you need the heater hoses to run to the original location, you could use a 90 degree end on the hose connecting to the water pump. I remember seeing that "someplace" just don't remember where.

Nice fitment with the accessory drives and exhaust manifolds. Just went through some accessory drive research on my build and missed one important point on mine I just noticed from your picture.....where is the electric fan in relation to the water pump pulley in the vertical. I see your fan is above the pulley.

Pic1 shows how much I trimmed and also the tubes for the bolts.

Pic 2 this shows how it is easy to access the nuts for adjusting the front alignment.

Thanks for the info on the hoses and the pic of your inner fenders. Yes, my fan is above the water pump pulley but that's due to the location of the opening in the shroud. If you didn't run one I'm sure you could adjust that a bit.
