Re: Frustrating Paint issues
So it's a regular clear, my theory is out the window.
When you primed and blocked, you did use a guide coat if I understood above correctly. So lets say the sealer went over smooth primer. Then the color was applied and then the clear. Do you think you had a lot of trash (dirt/dust) in the final or color coats? Did you get fish eyes all over? If you put 2 gallons of clear, unmixed, on the truck... you should not be going through until cut and buff #5 at least! Damn. That's a lot of material for the exterior of a truck if it's not a crew cab dually with a camper shell that got painted at the same time.

Re: Frustrating Paint issues
I think, and it's just my theory, that your primer wasn't flat enough to begin with. Did you use a long block or anything like that on the areas you could? I'm guessing your waves were in the primer, creating a million high and lows, the color over top won't self level, and that's why your sanding through in places.
Also, I know on my first paint job, I did about a 6,000 dollar job on a 3500 car, because I was nitpicking it to death lol. |

Re: Frustrating Paint issues
I sanded with guide coat. I used a 12" board. I used sealer. I am painting a 79 step side short bed inside of cab, total frame off.
I am having a professional painter come over later this week to give me his pointers will let you know, Maybe I am nitpicking it to death. He will elt me know, he has been over before and knows my bases of the project and my expectations of quality.
