Longhorn Man is correct, leds normally don't put out much heat at all. By comparison, the fillament style 1157 bulbs get so hot that you can't hang on to them if they've been on for more than a few seconds.

Brain fodder.....
Ruemster had a buncha posts and comments, to which many of us logged on and read. He offered his product to us, for less money, but those of us who didn't act quickly enough, now have to pay retail.
As for the heat issue....no heat at all. That is one reason that LED's have a typical life of 10,000 hours. Strobes are different. Incandescent bulbs generate heat. Fluorescent does, but way less. However, I don't thing we'll see fluorescent lighting for exterior use. As to the 1157 type of LED bulbs, there are cheap ones and there are good ones. You won't be able to buy good ones that are cheap! Case in point: I bought a pair of bulbs from Ledtronics.com. They were not cheap, at somewhere around $90 for the pair that I put in the tail lights of my truck. They popped right in and they work beautifully. They're bright, day and night. I bought a pair of APC bulbs for the parking lights on my truck. I got one in one side, and it wasn't as bright as the 1157 that I took out. I took it out, put the 1157 back in and took my licks. I also have 3 that I bought for my '96 Silverado, that have never been opened/used. I don't plan to use them.

Pickmup,
What are the caution tips? It looked in the article that a 6 year old can install them. Don't they just plug into the socket and you put your lens back on? Someone said something about having to buy a different flasher to make them work properly. Is this true? |

Thanks for the comments y'all. Almost makes me want to go back to a short fleet just for the lights
Making led side marker lights would be a cool idea too. |
