Drivers side

Spark plug boots are right up against the firewall but not smashed. There looks to be enough room.
Valve covers have about an inch maybe an inch and a half clearance.

Re: New Green bean

thanks, it's the corners of the covers I'm concerned about and yours looks about like mine, passenger side corner of valve cover maybe a finger can fit, drivers side less, and hei very close as well. I was really concerned until another member had a posted the same thing and has been driving his for about 5 years with no problem.

I just don't think my valve covers were the version that came with the auto firewall-denting option.

appreciate the pics!

Re: New Green bean

Got some work done on the Green Bean the last few months........swapped the motor and put a 4 speed in, dana 60 front with some new rubber n rims. All Pro Cross over steering and new PSC 2wd steering pump, brake booster and master cylinder. Installed a van tilt column and new steering wheel. About to pull the flat bed off and possibly go with a fleet side bed or may put another flatbed on....decisions decisions.

Definitely want to replace the springy stock seat, get a dash pad, mount speakers in doors and fix the sagging drivers side door (rusted at hinge).

Yeah I'm thinking of sticking with a flatbed, just too convienant vs a regular bed. Yessir stuck a sm465 with a new clutch in and swapped the dana 44 for a 60 I already had.
That fat chicks sticker is STILL there.....I somehow have not had the ability to peel her off just yet lol.

Re: New Green bean

Got the old flatbed off and threw another one on I had from my '68.

Replaced the wood decking with Apitong, ran new wiring and some LED's and now working on finishing the headache rack. Still need to get some backup-reverse lights, rear hitch and might put some underbody boxes in front of the rear tires for tools, chains etc and to fill the void.

Still need to:
Ditch the headers & install Ramhorn exhaust manifolds & redo exhaust/mufflers
design a front bumper
Build battery hold down (& possibly install 2nd battery)
figure out a new seat (newer model bench or buckets?)
Swap out the Eaton rear end for Dana 70 w/ discs (shackle flip & do away with blocks)
Repair drivers side door hinge & rot
Replace proportioning valve w/ correct one for discs/discs

Re: New Green bean

Voodoo you did good ! You fellas shouldn't overlook Oregon if you are serious abut finding a K series. Lots of them on my side. I picked up a 71 K10 same as this one for $500.00, Cab was shot but fame and running gear where in fairly decent shape. BTW your improvement look impressive

Goes down the road pretty good, tall tires and 4.11's so it's a geared a little tall for 37" tires. Crossover steering was a huge improvement over the push pull stock steering. Rides a little rougher than I had hoped so might look into shocks and some soft ride springs.

Re: New Green bean

Looking good. Seeing what you started with and what you've got now really makes me want to rescue a 71/72 k1500 sitting in a backyard a few blocks from me. Too bad I've got no space or cash for it.
