Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Already have the steering column and three speed Tranny out.....
Thats the bell housing still in there, we mocked up a piece of 1 x 1 to hold the back of the engine up after we pulled the trans.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
The cleaning process is a slow deal, putty knives, the about 3 cans of Gunk and at least 3 power washings.
I've ordered a new valve cover and side plates, but it seems we'll never get it clean enough to paint.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Did you do anything to the engine?
How many miles on engine? What gear ratio in rear end? |

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Oil was pretty clean and the truck ran well, the mileage is around 120,000, so we're not touching the insides yet.
Stock GM rear end in the '71 was the 3:73

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
We're not finished yet, Of course the prep was done, but we're still painting, the fins on all the accessories are getting the chevy orange\red treatment..... Valve cover, side plates, breather, PVC valve and air cleaner, accessory brackets, Alternator, Power Steering pump bracket and A/C Compressor Bracket..
We're redoing the black inner fenders, new core support, repainting the firewall and rust treating and painting the frame. At should be a really nice surprise to open the engine bay.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Got a few more Do-Dads on the 250:
Here it is with the Clifford intake and split manifold headers, Holley 4 barrel 390, power steering pump and ECI Accessory brackets. Still got to add the alternator and the A\C Compressor Still need to add the coil.... need to fab a new bracket to clear the fins on the side plates.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
I think I'd just leave that engine on display, in the corner of my garage and build a V-8 for the truck.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Well..... we've turned our attention to the soon to be home for that engine. Removed the inner fenders, core support and grill. Now its' wire brushes brake\parts cleaner, razor blades and rags before we paint the frame, firewall and inner fenders. In this picture we test painted the center of the firewall. I was surprised how closely the 518 spray paint NAPA made up matches the 45 year old original paint.

Not too much progress today....finished painting the firewall and heater box...
Rust proofed and painted the frame and cross member, then mounted the new power steering box:

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Got the new Ididit column in and the steering shaft connected to the new power steering box. Getting started on the new Ron Francis wiring setup..... hoping to stab the motor and trans back in the truck and re assemble the front clip.

Re: 'Morning Glory' 1971 C10 Stepside
Got the engine and 700R4 installed and ran into our first major issue. We've added power brake booster and it's HUGE. Causes us to have to angle the air cleaner a bit....but STILL looks great.
Passenger Side:
