I'd swear there should be Some type of o-ring to seal that off....maybe you should put on In the bowl where the seat screws in just for the heck of it and see if that stops it.

Re: 261 no start

Float level Does look a tad high from this angle. But I can't say for sure.

Re: 261 no start

I lowered the float level a bit and put everything back on the truck. Tomorrow I'll try starting it up and see what happens.

Re: 261 no start

Success! It seems like the carb isn't leaking anymore. I made a video of it starting up. Should it sound this rough? Smoke coming from the engine bay?

Sounds like it's running real lean. I noticed back firing a few times during the video. Least it ain't leaking no more. haha I'm having the same issue with the holley I rebuilt. Mine is either plugged idle circuits still or a big vacuum leak as it will idle roughly on almost full choke or I have to always be slightly pumping the gas on no choke. Running to lean or something is still plugged in my case. Maybe we need to back up a bit....did you Always have problems with this carb or did things just start recently?

Thanks tj. Which way do I turn the screw to make it a little richer? I know that the idle circuit is good for sure but there could possibly be a vaccum leak. During the summer It was a bit hard to start but it didn't run rough.

Re: 261 no start

Turn the screw to the left...shouldn't need more than 1 full turn unless it's WAY in.

Re: 261 no start

Don't want ya' chasing gremlins, but if you decide the issue is somewhere else, take a look at the engine's timing. GM made harmonic balancers with marks at 2, 2:30, and 12 o'clock, if the balancer was replaced with the wrong year, your real timing could be way off. Another possible issue is the harmonic balancer is separating. To test it, place a mark on the rubber part below the timing mark and hit it with a timing light. If it appears to be moving separately from your timing mark, time for a new balancer. The upside, confirming these aren't part of the problem takes under an hour.

Thanks for the suggestions but I don't think it's the timing. It was running smoothly during the summer and the timing wasn't messed with. Tomorrow I'll let it warm up with the choke on and see if it'll idle with the choke off.

Re: 261 no start

I read TJ's reply and I'm curious, have you done a vacuum test recently?

No I have not. It has brand new gaskets on the carb and manifolds but I'm thinking that it could still be a vaccum leak. I'll do a test tomorrow if I have time.
