Re: Tailgate Seal

The pictures I posted above are the two vertical strips that go on each side of the bed. I still have the original horizontal strip, and it looks almost identical to the last picture above of the green truck. I'll post a picture of it later today.
Thanks.

Re: Tailgate Seal

Dan...do you have the metal vertical hold down strips pointed to in this pic? Based on your posts, I'm assuming you did not.

Re: Tailgate Seal

Well here you go. I stole this from Alex's very original 69 for sale post. I was oblivious to this type of seal. My truck was a base truck (no carpet, no side panels) from St. Louis and it had the metal strips holding the round profile seal to the inner side of the corner post. This type of seal looks like it is screwed to the jam. I love this site....now let's see if Dwayne can come up with a part number

No, I don't have those. Here's a picture of the horizontal carpet hold down. It had the remnants of a seal under it when I removed it.

Re: Tailgate Seal

Yep...Dan I think your seal and carpet strip are what came on your truck. I think your set up is the same as Alex's red 69 pictured in my previous post.

Edit...I'm not sure of this, of course smarter more experienced folks weigh in...it seems right though.

Re: Tailgate Seal

There is some adjustment(slotted holes) for seal to tail gate contact. The after market one piece I used seals very well.

Re: Tailgate Seal

Here's a closer view of what it would look like installed. I think I will try and find some of those metal strips and use the newer type seal. Like Doo mentioned, the sloted holes would allow for adjustment where my original one doesn't.

Re: Tailgate Seal

Huh...well, I thought what you had fit in the jam. Your post/pic clears it up for me...I interpreted the pic of the red 69 to be what you had. Still never seen a tailgate seal like yours, though it looks like it was well engineered and probably worked well. If nothing else, it's made for a good thread. Maybe someone will post pics of a similar setup and shed some light on it. Makes sense to me to go with the "metal plates" set up.

Re: Tailgate Seal

This is what I have figured out so far the 69-70 are different than the 71-72. I am assuming the plate they are mentioning is the carpet strip but will have to do some more research.

Good find !! I also have part #5 but won't be using it on my build. Was that available on the 71-72? Just curious

Yes the stop is listed for 69-72 same part number. I have seen them for sale and it appears the earlier version was a different design.

Keep in mind that my Blazer is a 1970 which may make a difference.
My 1971 K5 has the same pieces. Sadly, they are in worse shape than yours.

They were molded into the pieces on the sides, but 72 were just secured by the trim pieces. I believe the carpet strips were used in different configurations ( front/rear being same or diferent, mine are different I have seen front strip on the rear also).
All that to say, I would use seal trim, and be done with it.Attachment 1496296
