Re: help! wiper wiring
I've got to give thanks to this thread, because I'm an idiot when it comes to wiring and I don't know if I would have figured things out with this.
After half-ass trying to figure out the wiper wiring for months, I finally decided to attempt in again today and succeeded because of this thread

Re: help! wiper wiring
Ok, I am in the process of checking everything before I stall them. I am currently checking the wiper motor. Thanks to this thread I have most of it figured out.I am using a power probe, and this thread, to check things out and found the following.
Yellow - power Dark Blue - washer pump Light blue - wiper motor Black - NO IDEA When I apply power to Yellow/Dark Blue I hear the washer relay clicking but no pumping Power to yellow/light blue the wiper motor runs So my questions are: 1 what is the black wire for 2 since I hear the relay click but no pumping sound is the pump bad PS: The PO just cut all the wiper motor wires. Have no idea way. Guess he was only going to drive it on sunny days.

I am not sure what you mean by applying power. To me that means applying a hot wire. You do not want to connect a + (hot wire) to the dark or light blue they are both ground wires that ground through the wiper switch. The black wire is a constant ground wire. The dark blue wire only energizes the pump relay as you found out. The wiper motor has to be running for the pump to pump water, it drives the pump. Just connect all of the wires back together and it should work. The wiper has to be mounted to the firewall and the wiper switch has to be mounted in the dash for everything to work. LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
Thanks for the info, LockDoc. The black wire really had me stumped and I couldn't follow the wiring diagram. Still trying to get use to the fact they use the ground side to break the power rather than the power side on these trucks. Thought they would have used white or green to signify it was ground and black or red for power.
I'll retest the pump and if it works I get to install my second piece in the cab!! The first piece was the dome light and running that wire.

No problem. The thing to keep in mind is that anytime a vehicle has sat for a long time without the wipers/washers being used or a new kit is installed in the pump, the whole system has to be primed before the pump will pump any fluid. I use a turkey baster to prime the system. Fill the baster with water, hook it to the hose at the tank end and gently squeeze the baster while the pump is pumping. Also, while the system is apart blow through all of the hoses and squirter nozzles with an air hose. Do not blow air through the pump, you could rupture the diaphram in the pump. (and blow backwards through the squirter nozzles) Oh, and don't forget to clean the small strainer screen inside the washer tank. LockDoc

Re: help! wiper wiring
The best part of this board is...I don't have to start a new thread, I can search the board or google for the questions I have and 99% of the time get the answers I need and 95% of the time google leads me to this board and 5% of the time to RGibson (board member) or David Welch with videos. Great stuff
Thanks for the answers on this thread and the board overall! Bravo! |
