Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
So I finally got the new tires and wheels on today. I had a little difficulty coming up with the lug nuts, but only because I am a lug nut LOL.
Thanks to cleszkie for selling me the mags off his blazer, and thanks to him, special-K and Livrat for helping me sort out the lug nut deal. Now there is a little clicking noise coming out of the right front tire area ... more things to figure out =)

Looks great, what size tires and where did you get them? I have 16.5 slot mags but can't find 33" tires for them...you must be running 35"?

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
The farthest Ive driven on the new tires is about two miles one way, and not over 35 mph.
Ill probably get some freeway time next weekend. But honestly I don't care about road noise at all. It just wont ever be driven enough to let it become a deal (easy to say right now lol).

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
So when I first got the truck we gave it a quick clean up and took the canopy off. This weekend I washed all the windows inside and out. Man it really is different looking through the sparkly windows and mirrors haha!
I was cleaning the tires and mags and the front left mag was missing two lugnuts and had a couple of loose ones. Now this is weird because I just put these on, all new, all torqued to perfection. I checked all the rest of the lugs and all were good. I'm ordering a set of locking lugs today. And I'm parking my truck in the back yard behind a locked gate ... dunno if someone was monkeying with it or not, just not going to take a chance leaving it out front anymore. Yesterday I drove it to the John Deere dealer to get a rear bagger for my mower. The lady brought the stuff to the truck on a hand truck and went gaga over the 68. Her dad had one just like it when she was growing up, reminded her of him. On the way home saw a couple more K-trucks and got the wave lol. I'm really glad I picked this thing up from Mark. It was such a nice day, 80's, all the windows down and the slider open taking the back ways to all my stops. Funny thing, every time I get in and start it up my left foot hits the floor. All my other 4X4's have been 4-speeds. I need to get the new interior in that Grumpy sewed for me. Need to make some decisions on what I'm going to do with the gauges and radio first. Ill post pics when I get it in.

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
Ill just keep adding my thoughts here. Today I finally made the decision to change the nose to 71/72 style Chevy. And Ill probably go with 505 green. I really like that color a lot. Its basically going to look a lot like my last K20, but the paint will be nicer, and I have these groovy mags on it. Rear step bumper will be painted silver along with the mirror arms. They should match pretty close to the inner grill. All the side trim will have to go. I have boxes with no side trim I may go with so I dont have to fill a bunch of holes. Door holes should be it. They need some rust repair anyway. I want to get a set of cab lights too. I thin the pucks are pretty cheap from the dealer still. Not sure about the mounting pads though. I also have a set of right and left spotlights I may dig up.
Im pretty sure I have all the 71/72 stuff to change it over, except I know there is something different about how the core support mounts, thats the only thing I will need.

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
If you decide to go chevy I may be interested in your grill and radiator support. I'm sure shipping would be a deal breaker!
Nice truck as it is. Thanks, Rg

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
Keep putting your thoughts here. I'm enjoying following the transformation. Personally, I prefer the 69-72 hood on a 4wd for it's blunt and stout look. Sleek doesn't play into 4wds in my book. That's a streeter thing. My perfect pair will be the '67 SWB and the '72 K2500. I'll have first and last year covered, as well as 2wd/4wd, long/short, sleek/tough, low/tall, and hot rod vs hard worker. Both GMCs.
Here's my old '71 Blazer from 30-35 years ago: Same front end and color you want. Too bad it has a push bar to look past, but maybe some inspiration anyway

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy
I was out and about today and stopped to get some gas for the lawn mower and pressure washer. Fella said he really liked my truck. Asked me a few questions about it and then asked if I had thought about selling it. I said I hadn't really even considered it. But if someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse it would be theirs.
He asked me what that price would be. I told him I would know it when I heard it. He then started in on the truck ... I really like it but it has rust that needs to be fixed and this and that, he instantly went in to Charlie Browns parent talking mode in my head. I said it was nice talking to him and I had to get home and do some yard work, I think Ill hang on to my truck ... for now.
