Re: 65 long bed step side
messing with it more today and i think i have a bad temp gauge. the gauge shows its overheated quicker than 2 min of starting the engine. crack the radiator and the coolant is very cold. any replacements or way of testing?

Re: 65 long bed step side
currently has a new sending unit. does it have anything to do with the placement of the sending unit? my 230 it was on the thermostat housing. with the 250 out of the nova i got its right above the intake/exhaust. i am wondering if the placement is heating up the sending unit?

Re: 65 long bed step side
i drove it up the street a couple times and back. LOVE it so far just a little worried about going to far with my temp gauge not working correctly. i just picked up a laser temperature gun and going to flush the system to make sure its not clogged up with anything. i had some steam from under the hood but with no overflow bottle i believe its just from the overflow tube.

Re: 65 long bed step side
The "steam" could be smoke from the engine getting hot and burning the paint off. It happens really easily on the exhaust manifold.

Re: 65 long bed step side
today i tackled the headlights. they would start turning on and off after turning on for 1 min. added an upgraded wiring with relays in them problem solved and brighter lights. now to figure out what is going on with my rear turn signals. front will work as usual but the rear both will flash i have already replaced the turn signal switch in the column .. any suggestions?

Re: 65 long bed step side
Curious what you did for the HEI power wire. I'm getting close to that step on my 66 and not sure 100% how to go about it. Did you replace the wiring from the bulkhead connector to the fuse panel too?

Re: 65 long bed step side
i can't help ya with that one. when i bought the truck it already had a HEI in it. i am sure tj's chevy can help ya out.
i do want to give an update i have been doing a couple freeway trips with the T-5 now. man this thing is just a cruiser now i can drive anywhere and not worry about a thing. before with the 3 speed i was worried about some step hills in my area. now its no issue and i am passing cars with ease. anyone looking to do the T-5 it is well worth it in my book. |

Re: 65 long bed step side
I wired mine from the ignition side of the starter solenoid. Seemed to work nice.
