Seat might be a red flag, but they weren't made to last. Mine was thrashed when I bought this.

Not sure if that's cancer in the door frame or excess weatherstrip adhesive.

The tailgate appears to be a reproduction without embossed GMC letters. The "GMC" on the tailgate is from a recent GMC product.

Is the seat really blue?

All of the bolts used for the hood components on my truck have always been hex head. In fact the only 12 point bolt is on the steering column is at the rag joint if I recall correctly. I have, however, seen some trucks with the hood latch attached with the 12 point bolts. Could it be year or plant dependent?

You guys are pretty sharp, If there is any paint missing on the door where the arm rest I believe that would be a dead give away not to mention the tailgate thingy.

Most likely he bought it as a 120k rig, that looked extremely well. That steering wheel does not add up to the seat looking the way it does. Thats for sure.

Take 2, look at the brake pedal, full on busted dude, mine has over 250k and the brake pedal looks the same. I am calling BS.

As a reference, below is a picture of the interior of my truck in 2010 when the odometer said 18,713 miles. However, I know, and have records to prove, that the actual mileage was 118,713. I had always treated it pretty well and feel it was in excellent condition for its age. Hell, that's still low miles at an average of less than 3000/year.

A big problem with the older vehicles is that younger people are used to seeing 6 digits to left of the decimal point and get excited when they see 5. There is rarely any proof. As others said in posts above, it's all about condition and the truck we are picking apart is darn nice.

I hope this thread is not picking someone's truck apart, that wasn't my goal here. I started the thread in anticipation that a knowledgeable board member was close enough to go see the truck in person. Its a very nice looking truck based on the pictures. If it were closer to me I would go see it and report back, hint, hint, hint.

I'm in absolute agreement.
This is a very nice, straight, apparently solid and well optioned truck and well worth the money it is currently at ($8600).
I appreciate the fact that the truck does not appear to have been subject to some more backyard modifications (suspension/various motors/etc/etc).
The remaining elements on it (Seat/tailgate/etc) are the kind of upgrades and changes that can be put into the truck while the owner enjoys driving it.
As for the mileage....ignore it, it only counts for anything 1% of the time in this type of vehicle group....when its true or correct. Stick with what is on the ground in front of you...a nice truck.

See, that's a double edged sword. Would you rather a potential buyer be fully aware of the potential issues that would detract from it's value as an original 20K mile survivor or have them post here excited about their new purchase that they paid too much money for (because it wasn't what it was stated to be?)

I personally love it, but based on what i see, I would only pay what a nice quality longbed is worth, nothing more. With the current $8,600 bid I feel that would be a GREAT buy. I feel that it would top out around 11-12K and that's mostly because of the options (PDB, Auto, heavy duty cooling, etc) and A/C, without that stuff it would be at about it's max value I would pay for it now.

I don't see the brake pedal break, though we've already established me eyes suck. A few more things that stand out for me:

Brake release handle: 20K on that handle, so to speak? Maybe a climate/exposure issue?

Gear indicator. My truck has 140K and the indicator still looks like new. This one looks like it came out of a 200K mile truck.

Air cleaner: My 140K air cleaner doesn't need to be repainted with the restoration. Possibly a climate/exposure issue?

Again, that tailgate suggests this truck was in a collision, which isn't necessarily a deal breaker. Why would you DOWNGRADE the tailgate? Tastes vary, maybe they figured it was an upgrade.


That said, there are many areas that appear consistent with a 20k mile truck. For example, that floor mat is nice.

That is one nice truck alright. I love it.

That seat cover almost looks like a cheapo JC Whitney pull over set that may be covering a pristine seat. Then I noticed what looks like broken springs bulging from the driver side bolster. I'm not sure a low mileage seat would have broken springs.

Not bashing, just observing. Well worth what has been bid on it so far.

True story. At first glance I didn't care for the truck, but as you dive in deeper, he does nice work. Still don't care for the color.

So as I am not to be misinterpreted, there is many finer points about that rig. The wear on the brake pedal is a giveaway to me.

I am sure many of you whom have older non restored high mileage rigs would agree using your own rig for comparison.
