Re: FITech Installation - Vent Line
Technically, a vent and a return line are different items. Could you vent to a charcoal canister? Not sure if that works, but just a thought.
I helped an uncle finish the install of a FITech unit on a '32 coupe last weekend. I was impressed with the product. 4 wires, high pressure line from tank, return line to tank, sensor bung in exhaust. Turned the key and it fired right up. Had a holley carb on it prior, the FITech was noticeable better immediately. It could not have been simpler. My uncle spoke to their customer service on the phone four times last week and had nothing but positive things to say about his experience. Hopefully, your email interaction is an exception. I will be using one down the road. |

Its hard to judge what is them covering their asses for liability and what is an actual requirement. The guy I was emailing with (never gave his name, it was a generic FiTech email) pissed me off when he said "you need to just suck it up and move the bomb out of the cab."

Re: FITech Installation - Vent Line
I would not have had anything positive to say about that comment either. My uncle was not confident in his ability to do the install and was "bugging" them with questions about how to install. Things like fan relay control, timing control etc. They were fairly clear in the instructions, but the tech guy was very patient with him. He can be critical at times, but was very upbeat. Maybe you should give them a call vs email.

At the moment I'm waiting and hoping to see someone successfully install the FCC with a stock non-EEC tank so I can copy whatever they do on the vent.... I have a perfectly good running carb right now, but I really want some of the things fuel injection offers, like managing idle speed when the AC compressor cycles. But I'm not willing to make a $1300 mistake just because of that little vent line.

I considered using a charcoal canister but another member pointed out they want it back to the tank in case the float valve in the command center sticks. If it does, you are returning straight fuel to the tank.

Did you try a vented cap? Or can't you buy one for your year truck. |

Re: FITech Installation - Vent Line
That is exactly my concern.

Re: FITech Installation - Vent Line
I don't like the tank in the cab, and I don't want to vent the FCC into my cab tank.
I'll be installing a tank under the bed.

Re: FITech Installation - Vent Line
Can someone who is smarter than me explain why it matters if the vent line is submerged? If you have a vented cap what difference does it make the pump isn't going to run backwards? I cant foresee fuel going backwards through the vent line and if that was a concern I am sure there is some sort of check valve system available.
At this point Its probably no more labor intensive and probably more cost effective to just install an inline if one needs to use the in cab tank. |

Did you ever get an answer to your question?
