Re: My $300 find 1978 Silverado
I have the front clip removed, I don't how far to go with this, my buddy has a guy that does powder coating for good price, I bought new upper control arms that have new ball joints and bushings installed, I would still need to replace all tierods pitman arm idler arm and lower ball joints and bushings. For now I'm going to start pressure washing and removing parts.

Slow progress fellas, I was pressure washing the frame and noticed a couple of hair line cracks on the frame around the steering box area.

Re: My $300 find 1978 Silverado
I used the cheapest repair plate I could find, Ruff County makes it for the 4X4 trucks but it worked just fine for my 2wd. My neighbor did all the repairs, he drilled holes at the end of each crack and welded on both sides of the frame.

That young lady is just as good a reason as any for slowing you down.

BTW, thanks for the tip on the bracing plates at the power steering box. I haven't noticed cracks yet but figured it might be worth putting in place if I have the steering box out but I had balked at the pricing I had seen for other kits. |
